What can he ever hope to achieve from doing this; the guy's already as big a hero as you can get for Geordies. I don't see how he can come out of this as anything but a loser!

I don't... sorry Newcastle fans, but I'd love to see him take them down. Absolutely awful decision from both Newcastle and Shearer.

15/1 is a great price. 5 points ahead of West Brom and they appoint someone with zero management experience and quite frankly no clue about football (as witnessed when he's on TV). A very good footballer, but oh dear

I think it might be a good idea to go down this season anyway, have a good clear out of players and start fresh next season pushing for promotion. Clear out the dead wood

Pipe down - you're embarrassing yourself. You're just bitter because he turned you down.
You don't play the game your whole life and know nothing about football.

At 15/1??
You're on
It's nothing to do with his history or what he did / didn't do as a player. It's to do with him as a manager, his lack of managerial experience will cost Newcastle dearly. If they wanted to stay up they should have tried to get someone like Venables.

I can't see a boost though, Chelsea at home then two hard aways at Stoke and Spurs. Maybe 1 point from those 3 games...

It won't cost Newcastle anything - it's a no-lose situation. Like I said if we go down it won't be because of Shearer. He may give the place a lift and that might be the difference between staying up or not. We're already too far in the crap to be able to say it was him that took us down. At least Shearer know's the club. Terry Vegetables doesn't know his Arshavin from his elbow.

Venables might be a better choice but not by much if at all, look what Kenny D did for Liverpool as a player manager, i think it's a last throw of the dice for the toon, but it's worth the gamble imo, they want the Shearer bounce. two wins and a draw of two would do it, owen's back, should have brought King Kev back and get rid of the wise guy

Are you going to take my ยฃ10 at 15/1 then?
Of course it'll cost Newcastle, do you know how much a team loses by getting relegated? It could be the start of a very long spell outside the Premiership (think Leeds). Bad, bad decision by Newcastle football club and Shearer
El Tel may not be anything special, BUT he's been in this situation before and got out, he knows how to manage, he knows what to do tactically... I think he'd keep you up.

3 at Stoke? At a side with one of the best home records in the league. In their 15 home games they've got one point less than Chelsea and Arsenal. They've drawn with Liverpool at home, beaten Arsenal and Villa. United only just scraped past them. I'd be amazed if Newcastle took 3 points away from Stoke... then to an inform Spurs who beat Chelsea last time out at home!

Kenny Dalgleish?...Gareth Southgate more like!

Of course relegation will cost the club. For the third and final time though - the damage has already been done. If we go down it WON'T be because of the 8 games Shearer was in charge of. Whatever happens no one would be able to do a better job - not Vegetables, not Keegan, not even the great Salex.
I know my club mm - you can't tell me or any other fan what is best for us - we know fine well. We have some good players - we've given you 2 bloody good games already this season.
