OLYMPICS - Beijing 2008 - POST HERE ONLY, by Ruggs on Aug 8, 2008 21:31:58 GMT 1, I was off work today and didn't have much interest in the opening ceremony at all, but I caught a glimpse of the TV and stood there thinking to myself 'how did they do that', 'wow' and 'f@*king hell that was unbelievable'. I couldn't take my eyes off it. It was pretty bloody amazing stuff. I can't imagine London 2012 topping that one somehow.

OLYMPICS - Beijing 2008 - POST HERE ONLY, by Ruggs on Aug 8, 2008 21:55:34 GMT 1, Admittedly, it did go on and on. Over 4 hours infact. But what I managed to see was pretty spectacular. I guess the Beeb will run a highlights programme sometime later this evening. You should see the very best bits!

OLYMPICS - Beijing 2008 - POST HERE ONLY, by junkieart on Aug 8, 2008 22:05:10 GMT 1, The opening was brilliant!!! We could look v lame in 4 years! I disagree with the politics but they know how to cover up and party!! I wanted to go, but saw panorama last week and was amazed at the censorship, especially with the tiananmen square disaster victim, so second thoughts for me. Peace JA

OLYMPICS - Beijing 2008 - POST HERE ONLY, by artstates on Aug 24, 2008 3:03:41 GMT 1, Today is the close ceremony day of the Games. And the sky of Beijing today is relatively clear and it's not so hot... Everything is well if it ends well. So, wish it a good ending for Beijing Olympic Games!

OLYMPICS - Beijing 2008 - POST HERE ONLY, by funkydalek on Aug 25, 2008 15:59:52 GMT 1, Yellow there, I apologize for my noobness, but did any one see the English bit of the opening ceremony when they showed that clip thingy? I'm preeetty sure they showed a guy with a spray can just before the big red bus came alongside him. Could that mean that they are gonna so some graffiti stuff in 2012?

OLYMPICS - Beijing 2008 - POST HERE ONLY, by romanywg on Aug 25, 2008 16:34:23 GMT 1, Just out of interest, who won? I'm in the US at the moment and they say in all the papers that they won. But surely it's the nation that has the most golds not the most medals that wins, no? So by the US rules, if they won 124 bronze medals that would beat China or whoever if they had won 123 Golds! Bad losers or what?

Spot on JG. I read about this in the morning paper. The rest of the world have used the Gold medal tally to rate the national positions, however the USA has used the total amount of medals accrued over the games, which would put them top. A bit petty really but underlines the degree of politics attached to sport in general.
