OT - Football Poll, by Prescription Art on Aug 16, 2008 0:39:27 GMT 1, Where's Wycombe Wanderers on this list?
Am I the only one really not looking forward to the premier league starting? I'm increasingly sick of football & in fact this is the first time i've not had a season ticket for 10 years.
It's frankly a bit fucking boring isn't it when only 2 teams can win.

It's this concern for the game itself rather than the short-term fortunes of your team that is really heartening about football right now.
I'm sure the 'Emirates Stadium' (I was about to say that's the most ridiculous name for a ground i've ever heard, but then I remembered the Reebok Stadium and the Ricoh Arena) will be bulging when every other club is out of business & you're playing Man U every week.
Contrasting the news about Fat Frank's ludicrous new contract while thoroughly enjoying every moment of the Olympics just reminded me how thoroughly depressed I am about football these days.
It's all going to end in tears, there's no doubt about it, and not just for the lower league clubs. Probably beginning whenever Abramovich gets bored of Chelsea.

Agree with most of this - and all put into perspective as got up to watch Phelps & Addlington show what sport is about, and money has f*ck all to do with it.
For me it's down to Chelsea / United for the League. Arsenal, what's behind their best 11, as is the case for the other 18 sides.
I've gone to football games for over 20 odd years & the idea of underpinning spoilt rich kids by paying for the wages via a season ticket / match day ticket is not happening. As a result I'm now going to watch non-league at my local club. Turn up on a Sat @ 3.00 and walk in for ยฃ5. Standard of football has surprised me at how good it can be (I'm lucky in the fact that I watch Chelmsford who'se coaches philosophy is to play the ball on the ground from the back) and the whole experience is a laugh.
I'm not naive, nor a luddite and believe that Sky & the money it brought in was good for the game, but how this money has been invested has been shortsighted and wrong. Not enough in grassroots football nor subsidising pricing for children to go. As a result you have an aging demographic at premier games who view football as a sparodic pleasure like the theatre.

Can't see a good season for Everton coming up, I think it'll be tough.

True, but I think with how it's been weakened this summer plus the players you've kept never seem to all be fit at the same time (Arteta, Cahill, Osman), I think it'll be a struggle for you. You've got a pretty easy start until the Liverpool game and really need the points from the first few games as I think once the season gets into full swing you'll struggle...

OT - Football Poll, by bert on Aug 16, 2008 11:09:25 GMT 1, I'm a Palace season ticket holder.
I really enjoy the Championship, it obviously lacks the skill of the prem, but it has many advantages over the prem imo - great atmosphere at the games, competition and unpredictability (predicting the top 6 is impossible) and clubs being able to nurture young players through to the first team (until the prem vultures come after them!). An entertaining league!
Having said that, if we go up, I will be on cloud 9!!

OT - Football Poll, by Tiki on Aug 16, 2008 11:25:14 GMT 1, I think if the toffies stuggle at all in the first few games its gonna be all over. Bad spending by us in this transfer window, who have we bought exactly? Oh no hang on we sold one of our best players and split up one of the best upfront partnerships we've seen (Johnson and Yakubu) Its gonna be tricky! The premier league in my eyes is only got interest below 3rd spot.
