Steven Sidwell off to Chelski, by carlito on May 23, 2007 0:30:32 GMT 1, ...on a free to chelsea just confirmed
what a great move for the lad..their midfield has not one world class player...the arsenal reject will stroll into the side no problem *cough cough*
his agent needs to be shot, as he disappears into their reserves...

Steven Sidwell off to Chelski, by manchestermike on May 23, 2007 10:39:21 GMT 1, Exactly, although he'll be on about 3x his Reading salary, I'd sit on the bench or run round a muddy park with the reserves for ยฃ60k a week. Like Wright-Phillips and Scott Parker before him he's another lad with no ambition.

Steven Sidwell off to Chelski, by tomhills1 on May 23, 2007 17:41:03 GMT 1, you can add wayne bridge to that list. he hadn't played all season when he signed a new contract before christmas. it had a pay rise in of course but that had nothing to do with it, he signed because he wants to play games
top marks to scott parker though, he went there with the desire to break in, during the transfer window, i think that summer ranieri went, he didn't play so he moved to get first team football and has done alright at newcastle. got the captaincy too.
never thought siddy would sell himself like that but, mind you his old chum cashley is there so he's got someone to room with. and play mobile phones with too
set it to vibrate!!!!

Steven Sidwell off to Chelski, by speedyli on May 23, 2007 18:56:52 GMT 1, Joe Cole proved that by working hard you could brake into the 1st team & look how Chelsea missed him this season. Sidwell's no mug The Africa Cup is on this year & Chelsea will lose several key players for a good few weeks which will give him 1st team football from the off.

Steven Sidwell off to Chelski, by tomhills1 on May 23, 2007 19:13:01 GMT 1, fine but do you really think you can compare any of those players previously mentioned to joe cole? come on, he has been talked about in football circles since he was an eleven year old west ham schoolboy. i knew of him when he was 14 and saw a video of him basically running rings round his counterparts.
as an arsenal fan i know siddy inside out, arsene said when he sold him to reading that it may yet be the biggest mistake of his career (apart from julio baptista )
as for the african cup of nations, that isn't until the middle of january, over 20 league games will have been played by then and yes chelsea will lose john obi mikel and michael essien in midfield they're hardly gonna be short. not with makalele, geremi, lampard, cole, robben, wright phillips etc. chelsea's biggest loss will be that of drogba, maybe that is something they should be addressing instead of attempting to stifle the opposition by using their finacial muscle to hoover up talent.
it's a bit like the big supermarkets and their massive landbanks, built up solely to stop competetors opening up in prime location, they have no intention of using it for themselves.
i may be wrong but siddy ain't world class, he'll get found out.

Steven Sidwell off to Chelski, by speedyli on May 23, 2007 19:41:29 GMT 1, No you are right Cole is a bad example. Personally I think Sidwell doesn't want to play for anyone else but Chelsea, he already knows how hard it has been for Parker & Wright-Phillips. Perhaps he thinks he's got what it takes.

Steven Sidwell off to Chelski, by tomhills1 on May 23, 2007 20:42:05 GMT 1, yeah, "come on jimmy we're off to mcdonalds" featured on ad-breaks during the '94 world cup. i totally agree siddy thinks he can buck the trend but i remember SWP saying exactly the same thing when the parker comparison was levelled at him.
good luck to him, i don't know him too well as a person, he's keeps himself to himself from what i know, though i think he is ambitious and also confident in his ability which makes his move both surprising but understandable.
if it doesn't work out he will obviously take a step down but that may be easier from chelsea than it would have been stepping up from reading
i was always told as a young player to test yourself against the best. you're better playing above your standard and being an average player than playing at your standard and being one of the best.
like i say, good luck to him, good lad.
p.s, the final tonight and this transfer have given me food for thought for an interesting thread, but that's for tomorrow.
my milan are lucky.
