Off Topic: Soccer info needed., by ray on Sept 30, 2007 17:07:10 GMT 1, It looks like I might be coming to England sometime mid-late October. I've always wanted to go to a HUGE soccer match in a HUGE stadium. I have no idea which teams are good, where they play etc... or how to get tickets. Do the games all sell out? Is there a place online to get tickets on the secondary market if they do?
Any help would be appreciated.

bit id say the 1st 2
Manchester United tickets are a little easier to get hold of BUT Arsenal have just moved into a state of the art stadium
il find you some links and post them

If you go to Anfield (Liverpool) you'll love it, but stay away from the dodgy pies at half time ;D Tickets are a nightmare though, you've more chance of Curley going teetotal. Pains me to say it, but if you're heading for London and you physically can't get a ticket for Liverpool, then Arsenal is your best bet. Look out for Pezlow when he's next on. He occasionaly has a spare tkt. Also Rudeboyrupert, Carlito and Zippy to name but a few are deluded Gooners and they may be able to help you get Arsenal tickets.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy the game.

Off Topic: Soccer info needed., by ray on Sept 30, 2007 21:33:49 GMT 1, Thanks for the great info, I forgot it's "football" on the other side of the pond and not soccer
It sounds like Liverpool if they're playing at home and Manchester or United if not. Did I read something right online that you have to sit on one side if you're for one team and the other side if you're for the other team?
Now I just have to figure out what "dodgy pies" and "Curley going teetotal." mean
Thanks again.

Dodgy Pies at Anfield = Luke warm prosessed meat in pastry. Not to worry though, there is a McDonalds. As for a Teetotal Curley, don't worry mate, it ain't going to happen ;D

If you go and see Man U vs Liverpool in Old Trafford and you sit in a Man U stand, try your very best not to wear a Liverpool shirt.
I went to watch a Man U game in Old Trafford with a Man City supporter. Too say he was s**tting himself would be understating the case ;D
To any hardcore Mancs out there, I have no opinion on football ;D This could get hairy

Thanks for the offer Zippy! I might just take you up on it.
The only "football" story I have is from a time I was stationed in Germany when I was in the Military. We were invited to play in a tournament against the Germans, the Dutch, and the Belgians. They knew we didn't have a clue how to play and that we would basically embarrass ourselves. They promised to go "easy" on us. What they didn't know is that our Capt. had an English friend that got together a team of British soldiers to take our place. We went to watch. It was priceless. The Brits kicked everyone's azz and won it. To say the least, the other teams were stunned thinking they had just lost to a bunch of Americans.

Yes and if sitting in the home end try not to shout really loud in a London accent like I did forgetting where I was. Although you should be ok as they like Americans in Liverpool. Arsenal's new stadium is good though as a neutral cause its good football and a nice new stadium.Im a hammer but I wouldnt send you there on your first visit. I went to my first baseball game a couple of weeks ago too see the Chicago cubs and that was great too see people getting passionate about another sport ,I had no clue what was happening though. But you could drink at the game

I'm admittedly a bit late on this topic (and not sure if you're already across the pond), but your best bet for tickets to the Arsenal is to join Arsenal America. It's the official supporters club for the states. Check out the site at ArsenalAmerica.com. It's $20 to join and I believe they get tickets to every home game. You will pay face value plus a small service fee (5 pounds I think). If you go to a tout (scalper), the second he hears your American accent the price goes up 100 pounds, and it would already be AT LEAST 200 pounds. If you really want to see what it's all about go to an away game. The gooners that go to the away games get absolutely mental and it's a great time. You can arrange coach travel from London through Arsenal America as well, I went up to Newcastle in the 04-05 season (0-1, Vieira cracker ;D) and it was great fun. Good luck.
