The Best Film Ever, by mmmike on Apr 1, 2011 0:18:12 GMT 1, The Corporation...
WINNER OF 26 INTERNATIONAL AWARDS! 10 Audience Choice Awards including the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.
Provoking, witty, stylish and sweepingly informative, THE CORPORATION explores the nature and spectacular rise of the dominant institution of our time. Part film and part movement, The Corporation is transforming audiences and dazzling critics with its insightful and compelling analysis. Taking its status as a legal "person" to the logical conclusion, the film puts the corporation on the psychiatrist's couch to ask "What kind of person is it?" The Corporation includes interviews with 40 corporate insiders and critics - including Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, Milton Friedman, Howard Zinn, Vandana Shiva and Michael Moore - plus true confessions, case studies and strategies for change.

The Best Film Ever, by gibbin82 on Apr 2, 2011 9:50:57 GMT 1, I am taking a bit of a liberty here with the 'Recommend ONE film' thread, but I recommend you should see at least ONE of these three films you have probably never seen before. All are brilliant, all are foreign and subtitled and I think once seen they will get on your favorite film list
The Black Book
Downfall
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Best Film Ever, by Sliding on the Walls on Apr 2, 2011 10:53:13 GMT 1, I watched a film recently that left me slightly traumatized, shell-shocked and emotionally drained. It's possibly the most powerful film I think I've ever seen.
It's called Idi i Smotri (Come and See) and if you connect with films that actually touch you in a profound way and make a lasting impression then I highly recommend it.
On the other hand, if you (understandably) don't fancy witnessing the extent of the atrocities mankind can and has inflicted on himself, then perhaps it's not for you.

The Best Film Ever, by afroken on Apr 2, 2011 11:21:17 GMT 1, Of the ones mentioned already:
Blade Runner City of Gods Good Fellas Scarface
Has Taxi Driver been mentioned? Or Raging Bull?
Also I highly recommend Bronson. Tom Hardy is just incredible in it.
Oh and if being traumatised by a film is your thing then it has to be Pasolini's Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom.

Can't beat Bill Murray. Although Christian Bale is a fine actor and has had many of the best roles in films over the last few years.
Still Can't beat Caddyshack, The Royal Tenenbaums etc, etc

Chris Marker "La Jetรฉe"
If you have 29 mins, worth every second. Incredible what you can achieve with a series of stills and a great story. Film making at it's simplest, rawest and best.

The Best Film Ever, by rinaceirde on Apr 6, 2011 1:08:50 GMT 1, Having just watched the 'documentary film' a very British gangster about Dominic noonan and family I would definetly recommend it to anyone. Oh and while I'm at it another film although it's probably already mentioned 'mesraine' starring the outstanding Vincent Cassell is well worth a watch. 5 stars for his performance alone.

The director of this died today. Reported on R4 that a supreme court judge said of this film that it was a defining moment in their career. Well worth a watch, if you ahvnt seen it.

Good call that man. I've been meaning to mention this film for a while but you beat me to it and said it better than I could have. Probably the most powerful piece of film making I've ever seen too. This film IS war. See it.
