The Best Film Ever, by dp on Apr 11, 2024 14:57:02 GMT 1, ...maybe not "the best film ever" but certainly one of the films I have enjoyed the most in many years, and certainly one of my candidates for my personal best British film ever, along with Withnail and I :

The Best Film Ever, by alberti on Apr 11, 2024 15:56:44 GMT 1, And now for something completely different...
Wings (1927) It has everything - violence/action, nude, male-to-male kiss, female-to-female kiss, first FX (the Champagne bubble) and first tracking shot (better than Scorcese). Aerial combat are real, 3,500 infantrymen and 300 pilots - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wings_(1927_film)
Battleship Potemkin (1925) This movie had a major impact on cinema and art. Sergei Eisenstein was not only a director but a film theorist and he wrote many books about the art of montage in cinema and especially the manipulation of the emotions of the audience using different technics. The act IV of the movie, The Odessa Step, was so violent and the first movie to actually show killing of innocent persons (baby, woman, etc.) and remains one of the most important scene in cinema history. You may know the famous Bacon painting taken from the movie. Read about it here - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battleship_Potemkin
The Orchestra (1990) A bit later, Zbigniew Rybczyński (what a name!!) did a beautiful short movie of the Odessa Steps by juxtaposing images from "Battleship Potemkin" with images of foreign tourist visiting the steps after the fall of the Wall. Really funny - Zbigniew Rybczyński, who the fuck is this guy?? Well, he is famous believe me! He is the inventor of the HDTV technology and he developed his own chromakey technology (the famous blue/green screen) allied with CGI. He left Poland in the early 80s. Amongst his work, "The Orchestra", a one-hour movie done exclusively with CGI. This documentary will show you how he scanned the Hermitage museum with special camera to recreate a 3D version of the museum for his -
Otherwise, I am fine with any Bakshi or Ken Russell
