First single/record you ever bought!?, by headphonesex on Oct 31, 2007 13:02:39 GMT 1, Err... the first record I bought was 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' by Tight Fit! Nicely out of the closet, I bet you feel happier now being able to admit that!! Life can only get better from here on!!! ;D
Well i've always been happy to admit it. Although i have had those 'awimboways' hanging over my head all these years! It always surprisees me how many people pretend their first record was something cool though!

First single/record you ever bought!?, by corblimeylimey on Oct 31, 2007 13:08:41 GMT 1, It was so long ago I can't remember exactly.
I was into punk stuff, it could have been Holidays In The Sun by the Sex Pistols, or an early Stranglers (Get A Grip, No More Heroes, Peaches) or Siouxsie and the Banshees - Hong Kong Garden.
Was also into Sham 69, PIL, X-Ray Spex, Ruts, XTC and others I can't think of very quickly ;D

First single/record you ever bought!?, by stereoface on Oct 31, 2007 13:22:21 GMT 1, Guns and Roses - Appetite for Destruction. This is back when cds still came in those long rectangular boxes. Also, it had explicit lyrics so I wasnt even sure that I would able to buy it. But I was also a kid in a town of about 2000 in Texas.

First single/record you ever bought!?, by corblimeylimey on Oct 31, 2007 13:23:23 GMT 1, Actually I've just remembered the first single that was played a fair bit by myself and my sister (and I'm VERY ashamed to say it) was Gary Glitter - My Gang I didn't buy it (HONESTLY) it must have been bought for us I was about 9 and my sister would of been about 7, but as a little kid I remember it playing on the 'stereogram' with the likes of Robin Hood, Yellow Submarine by the Beatles, and Yeah Yeah by Georgie Fame, I think it speaks volumes about my parents taste in music more than it does of mine.
;D ;D ;D ;D

That's BRILLIANT, I was well into the Stranglers, you're right they still sound VERY GOOD. I know all the tracks off all their albums to Raven like the back of my hand, they've been played SO much.

Where i went to school was a chart return shop... so it used to be filled with major label tat at giveaway prices.
They had a massive stack of 'Drill' CDs for 10p each. They now go for what, ยฃ200?
I bought the cassette for 5p! Sold it for about ยฃ40 a couple of years ago.

First single/record you ever bought!?, by shogun on Oct 31, 2007 13:47:59 GMT 1, Greatly influenced by one of my elder brothers I purchased Public Enemy's Yo Bum Rush the Show on tape... I didn't have a record player in my bedroom and CD's were for the rich (I was a kid on a below-minimum pocket money allowance). Then I discovered the local library and to my amazement they had quite a few hip hop albums on tape and CD. This is where the pirating began Again an 11 year old doesnt really know the laws of copyright (I used to even photocopy the tape/cd sleeves...)

Cool CD I've got that one too, by the late 80's it was MC Tunes & 808 State and Beasties for me as well.

Off topic, tomorrow I am going to see John Cooper Clarke. If you haven't seen him live then do so. Today he is more about stand-up than poems, and is funny as fook.

Have Power on Vinyl its good from the front and the back... Still haven't shown the misses the album cover and have been hitched for just over 2 years (dont want her to throw it out). I still remember trying to work out what L.G.B.N.A.F stood for before I played it Them were the good old days when lyrics were printed in the sleeves...
I think the other big albums of the time were Eazy-E's Eazy Duz it and NWA's Straight outta Compton...Fear of a Black Planet was ahead of its time - the way each track linked with the next. As good as a Nation of Million...
