Best album art ever, by angel41 on Mar 20, 2008 20:27:01 GMT 1, Thought it might be a good opportunity to find out what fellow forum members thought was the best album artwork of all time.
Apologies if this had been done before.
A few spring to mind, the Warhol banana on the Velvet Underground debut album, Peter Saville's work for factory records, Peter Blakes Sgt Peppers. Warp records have a good track record, pardon the pun.
The list is endless which is why I think it's a good subject to discuss.
I wonder how many 'Think Tanks' there'll be?
Anyone that wishes to share their favourite artwork please list album and artist name and also the name of the designer if you know it. If you can, stick an image of the album on aswell.
Remember this is for best album artwork, not favourite album.
I've had a bit of a think about this and I keep coming back to the same album. I think Doolittle by The Pixies still holds up well today despite being 20 years old.
Artwork by the legend that is Vaughan Oliver.

Best album art ever, by spirit on Mar 20, 2008 20:39:58 GMT 1, Shit - Has it really been 20 years since I bought that? Doesn't time fly...
There are so many good ones but I always liked the Velvet Underground - VU.
Such a perfect and simple concept that could only really work for them. I love ideas like that.

I agree, I think the simpler the idea the more iconic it becomes.

Best album art ever, by Cocteau 101 on Mar 22, 2008 0:13:43 GMT 1, In terms of photography the first 5 Roxy Music albums are still pretty special.
All time favourite obvious but Pater Saville - Unknown Pleasures.
