The Magnetic Fields, by mred on Jun 20, 2008 21:01:53 GMT 1, Hi Slammer, I see you have good taste in music as well as art!!!!
For those who have not sampled Stephen Merrit's (Magnetic Fields) 69 love songs I would second slammer's suggestion to check them out. With 69 songs of every style under the sun there is something for everyone and if you like lyrics they will all make you smile.
A few years ago I had the pleasure of sitting in a sports hall in the middle of one of those hot sunny summers we used to get at the Womad festival listening to Stephen Merrit when he was part of a songwriters workshops. The workshop was being chaired by Midge Ure with Stephen, Andy White and a chair (third person did not turn up) making up the panel. The workshop turned out to be incredible although started of a little tense with Stephen in his New York way giving Midge a hard time with his answers. Although as time went on you realized Stephen's initial comment that he was inspired by Abba was true and actually made for a really amusing hour or so including a collaboration by all on stage of Mama Mia made even more surreal by looking across the room to see PG watching and smiling.
Not sure I can make the London shows but I am sure they will be a storm. I am off to listen to "Love Is Like A Bottle of Gin" and then "Let's pretend we're Bunny Rabbits". Where did I put that tape of the songwriters workshop;D ;D
