Whats the best message you've found on vinyl?, by a4mnt on Sept 8, 2007 22:44:04 GMT 1, Bit random, but who looks at the inscriptions on vinyl, near the label, where the record finishes.
Usually some good secret messages there, as well as boring catalogue numbers.......
Any exciting ones?

Whats the best message you've found on vinyl?, by scavos on Sept 9, 2007 1:03:29 GMT 1, "A Porky Prime Cut" Legendary!
Remember them well. In fact 'porky' must have cut the majority of 90's vinyl I'd have thought. He d'man! Am I sad for loving vinyl so much? Yeah probably but so what? So have you seen any decent messages then C?

Whats the best message you've found on vinyl?, by chrisps303 on Sept 9, 2007 11:20:43 GMT 1, The best things ive read around vinyl are on spiral tribe tunes but i cant remember exactly what they say, im going to go and dig them out and see what they say.
Around the centre of breach the peace, Free country, Free music, Free Party. And on the opposite side, Give back the systems. not really exciting but it has a meaning.

Whats the best message you've found on vinyl?, by a4mnt on Sept 9, 2007 15:00:18 GMT 1, A porky prime cut was just the cutting house/engineer.
I've seen loads, I used to run other peoples labels when i first came to London then went on to run my own labels and have 50 odd 12" releases of my own. So thinking up stupid messages was all part of the fun, though i can't remember many of them now.
One I do remember though is that my girlfriend of the time fell asleep with a joint in her hand in bed and I was downstairs when she screamed, so i ran upstairs with saucepans of water.
The next day I cut a track with the boys of Havok records and inscribed 'maximum duvet warmth' into the master. No-one else would have known what it meant, but then thats half the fun.

Whats the best message you've found on vinyl?, by a4mnt on Sept 10, 2007 9:40:29 GMT 1, McNuts - I tried that site last night, it gets my labels site but not my own :
We're sorry, access to www.marktyler.co.uk has been blocked by the site owner via robots.txt.
I'm just trying to remember some of the crazy stuff that engineers that I knew did on vinyl. Locked grooves are the basic thing I suppose, as long as the track is the correct bpm etc (can't remember the exact specs). One engineer I knew cut a master with a wide gap between the grooves (didn't use the space saver option that bunches the grooves together when the beats stop, hence why you can see where the breaks are) and then cut the same master again halfway around the from the start of the original cut, so a different tune would play depending on where you started the record. Dunno how long it would have taken him to do that......
I'll try to remember if i have any stuff online, or see if i can load a mix up. Anyone know of a good place to do that?
whats Megaupload like anyone?

I believe its 127BPM for locked grooves.
As regards the run out groove messages check some of Weatheralls old tracks and early remixes as he nearly always left a message.

Whats the best message you've found on vinyl?, by AJ on Sept 11, 2007 20:40:58 GMT 1, I'll have to dig some out! Primal Scream have some funny ones, but one that I remember from when I was a kid was from the 7" picture disc of Wings Of A Dove by Madness.
One side had "look up at the rooftops"....
The next side had "at the arse of a crow".
