SLR Cameras, by hlarmy on Sept 5, 2009 10:02:48 GMT 1, A bit of a random question: I'm looking to buy a new camera and have been considering upgrading from one of the those basic pocket size digital camera to an SLR. I have a budget of around ยฃ500 and would like something quite compact that is suitable for a beginner photographer and an element of travel. Any advice would be great + if you have one and wish to sell / upgrade drop me a PM as I'd rather buy a much better second hand camera at the price of a new, lower spec camera...

SLR Cameras, by Daniel Silk on Sept 6, 2009 23:00:24 GMT 1, I have had my Sony DSC-H7 camera for over a year now, and would highly recommend it
They now have an even better DSC-HX1 version out now, and that looks amazing! right on your budget too ยฃ499.99

SLR Cameras, by howlinjack on Oct 6, 2009 15:11:19 GMT 1, i have a d70s. fantastic. dropped it a few times. hard as nails and takes great pics.
Most SLRs pretty much all do the same thing so its a "Brand" thing when it comes to choice.
nikon and canon have been around for a long while and their old lenses still work on their modern cameras.
lenses are the real cost in photography especially for a good one.

SLR Cameras, by hlarmy on Oct 6, 2009 15:18:04 GMT 1, Cheers all, I forgot about this thread!!
My preference is a Canon, something like a 40d / 400d / 450d / 500d but don't know much about SLRs at the moment so waiting for the right deal to come up.

SLR Cameras, by darrenrapley on Oct 8, 2009 15:37:37 GMT 1, I have a 30d and can recommend it. edit - However, the comment about the lenses is so true. A Canon 10d, 20d, 30d etc are all good but if you only have the standard lens with it (like me) then it falls short.
