But with a bigger amount we could give your company/blog an identity that people would recognise and respect, maybe even lob in a bit of SEO, who knows ! Think you might have missed the point here. The whole free pitch issue is a can of worms amongst designers and not aimed at RBK in fact most Graphic Designer forum members i guess including myself would only be too happy to help RBK out here, and probably will.
For the record, anyone can do a logo but it takes time and a bit of love to do something half decent. Would you commission an artist and expect a free canvas?

just out of interest, if someone said to you, i have a bit of an empty space on my wall, do you want to have a bit of fun and do me a canvas, and you can put the result on your website saying you did this, what would your response be?
as for the anyone who would want to have a bit of fun comment, he didnt ask everyone, he specifically asked for a graphic designer, which is a profession, to do him some work for free
graphic design is lucky that it is one of those jobs that the people who do it generally like what they do, but it is nethertheless, still a job, something you need to train for years to be any good at it, and should be treated the same as any other

My view is that if the client is asking the designer to sacrifice payment, then the client should sacrifice choice - the designer should get complete creative control and the client gets what he's given.

As I mentioned - I'm not averse to paying a small sum - but since the blog doesn't make any money (just like many of you creative types, I invest my own time photographing these art events, retouching the photographs, uploading them all, and sharing the information for the masses) I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out. Maybe the exposure is worth it for you - maybe not. We'll gladly highlight the logo maker's portfolio/other projects on our blog as a thank you.
I don't care if you are a professional graphic designer or some young computer wiz who lives above your parent's garage - just want a cool logo as the block letters are a bit drab. As BK83 mentioned, maybe it's a bit of fun for someone to do.
