HDR Photography - Have you tried it?, by trowel on Apr 8, 2009 17:49:10 GMT 1, Tried it a few times in the States, Monument Valley and the GC in particular. Came out well, but nothing like as good as that top subway shot!
A decent tripod and a little knowledge of how to control your camera's exposure bracketing will get great results with little effort. As dotdot says, shooting in RAW is essential.

HDR Photography - Have you tried it?, by bradpitt on Apr 8, 2009 18:09:34 GMT 1, Silky - download the trial version of photomatix.. I don't think you will be seeing HDR goggles as it works by grouping images together with different exposures as far as I know.
Romanywg has done some excellent HDR images of Hellingly Hospital which are definitely worth a look

Far too much HDR online is very overdone hence a lot of purists slate it

The 'purists' seem to forget how much trickery used to be done in the darkroom. Most of the stuff we do on our computers (dodging and burning, HDR) seem to have roots in skills learnt in darkrooms / years before 'digital photography' (see Charles Wykcoff).
I love the surreal images you get with HDR but they always look surreal ie tend to be easy to spot.
The second image posted - did it really need to be HDR?
