Photography Art, by maadbeats on Jun 8, 2009 17:42:29 GMT 1, Well, for the past half year I have been trying to diversify my collection outside of the street art world. Been loving photography art for some time especially the big guys like, Richardson, LaChapelle etc.
Two new pieces I have added are Melanie Pullen

If you hang around White Cube with a briefcase full of money I'm sure a Gursky will come along

How is the quality on that Krug photo? (not that I know much about this stuff). Can you post a photo of the actual photo if you get a chance?

Photography Art, by jusdeep on Jun 10, 2009 16:34:22 GMT 1, Nice Dash Snow James. I also have a few pieces by Nobuyoshi Araki which are unfortunately forum unfriendly, but beautiful never the less. I'm sure I have a few others knocking around which I will post if I can find them when I get back off holiday - (Laid up in Brasil with a stinking cold, which sucks nearly as much as missing the weekend Banksy carnage, although maybe thats a blessing in disguise). Maadbeats I like the Melanie Pullen, great purchase. On a related note, I recently used some of Gursky's photograhy on a project and found him to be a very nice and generous guy, although he wouldn't send me any of his work without the said 'suitcase of cash'.

These are HUGE pieces 100x140cm, and stunning in person! I'm looking closely at a few from the Third Front series, and am looking forward to sharing my photos of the piece(s) soon!!

Photography Art, by thegreatarchitect on Jun 17, 2009 17:03:53 GMT 1, Often wondered if photography should be considered as Art. What distinguishes the great from the snap shot?. Some of the best images i have seen have not been taken by renowned photographers but by the New York Police dept from the 1930s -40s all of which were taken by unknowns and used on for the purpose of evidence not high art. Is Jeff Wall any good ?

My favorite photos are when the photographer creates the scenerio and captures the moment. Therefore I call it art.

Thanks Wizz. I know the arnolfini in bristol usually has a few signed books but i was wanting something to frame and have on the wall.
The limited edition copy of the book is tempting but i'm not captivated by any of those 4 prints. I'm hoping rocket might have a few more so i'll keep you guys posted.
cheers

do you mean neither were for sale long? that you didn't keep them for long? or that they faded?
i'm guessing it's the former, but thought i ought to check. i'd wanted to get an araki polaroid but i am worried about how long the polaroids will be chemically stable and whether they'd fade away too quickly.
thanks - i had bought "a book of field stories" a few years ago and thought it was a brilliant study. i'll definate consider getting some of his work.
cheers
