HELP!!! Mac user needed, by Sherlock Holmes on Mar 6, 2008 19:55:52 GMT 1, If there is anyone on here that can help/advise it would be greatly appreciated.
Basically, I'm browsing this forum and the window shuts down and a small box appears saying my 'PC' has been running slow and it may be infected with viruses, adware or spyware. I go to close it and a new window opens from a site http:// scanner2.malware-scan.com.
It giae me the option to download Spy-shedder to do a free scan of my system. I immediately closed this window.
I've been trying to find some info about it on the Apple site and mac forums but can't find anything. There's a bit of info about it on Google saying that it can locate and copy passwords I have stored as well as corrupt my OSX etc etc. It gives no details about what you should do if this happens though.
Will it have created a 'file' on my Mac that I can trash or.......? Should I delete all my cookies and history or am I worrying about nothing?
Never had this happen before so I'm quite concerned.
I don't have any anti-virus programmes i.e. Norton.

HELP!!! Mac user needed, by bubble on Mar 6, 2008 20:18:32 GMT 1, Hi there, If a clean install is out of the question then I would try and have a chat with a person in an apple store, if u r near one, they are generally helpful (if not too busy) When my PalPAl acount was hacked they reassured me that the server was at fault and that I didnt need to spend hundreds on Norton anti virus software , which I was all ready to do. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for that. I need to visit Apple soon anyway so I'll speak to them.

Thanks guys for your help.
I'm thinking I was naive to believe I didn't need anti virus software as Mac were already extremely secure (which, I suppose, compared to PC's they are).

HELP!!! Mac user needed, by r1 on Mar 6, 2008 21:40:43 GMT 1, Im on a mac and this happened to me the other day. I closed the window before it fully uploaded as i didnt know what it was and i suspected it was a virus. Did you let the page upload fully ? If you did close the internet, go to your safari menu- services -disc utility- calculate image checksum. This will run a system check and should identify any problems and repair them. All aplications will need to be shut down for this to run. I've had the same problem on myspace aswell but i solved it this way.
hope this makes sense.

HELP!!! Mac user needed, by mainartery on Mar 6, 2008 21:48:11 GMT 1, I had this happen yesterday, exactly the same thing. Lucky your safe on a mac with this. I ran norton and its a browser virus so your safe. I have a feeling it must be on the forums by the sounds of it. PC users should probably be aware.
You dont have to reinstall os but i would go to file, empty your cashe, then go back to file and reset safari. Then empty your trash and quite safari.
By reseting safari it wont delete your favourites but will get rid of your history. Shutdown your computer and start it up again.
Problem sorted.

HELP!!! Mac user needed, by sahoria on Mar 6, 2008 21:50:55 GMT 1, i just came to the thought it is another pop up...might not be for this site however though as some pop ups have time frame before they show themselves so could have picked up from different site altogether.. if you download alot and go to (Removed) sites then this is where most people pick them up... nothing to worry about though..when you see blue screen then start worrying!! good luck..s.

HELP!!! Mac user needed, by icky on Mar 7, 2008 0:09:01 GMT 1, It just happened to me. It said it had scanned my hard drive and found a lot of windows viruses. Which is impossible since i'm on a mac.
It's just pop-up windows promoting pc anti-virus software by scaring people. I've been on macs since +20 years and believe me, this is nothing to worry about. It's the first time I see it, and it's very nicely done, but it's still just a hoax.
