WWDC 2008 - new iphone ?, by dodge on Jun 9, 2008 20:14:14 GMT 1, I am an absolute sucker for apple gear but wasn't sold by the iphone (mainly due to the phone & contract price together with connectivity issues), but this new 3G version should sort that out. In addition, the price is a real winner.
Pity I just signed a new 18 month contract 2 months ago

WWDC 2008 - new iphone ?, by cas on Jun 9, 2008 20:37:11 GMT 1, i think o2 will be offering the new iphone for free on higher value tariffs, could also see a free upgrade for existing iphone customers if they commit to a further 18 month contract.
idris is correct though, people who paid 269 for the original iphone and then never registered the sim haven't been chased by 02/apple - that's why they charged 269 for it. apple got their money and 02/cpw were just happy to have the 'exclusive' shout & increased footfall in their stores.

I worked for o2 up until a few weeks ago. they were screaming all sorts about how they'd restrict any1 who'd bought the iphone and not registered it - of course nothing has happened!!
the new iphone will hit the market hard - there's been a lot of iphone wannabes since its original release but those who have used the iphone will agree - ther's no comparison. iphone rocks

WWDC 2008 - new iphone ?, by richy00 on Jun 9, 2008 21:37:33 GMT 1, i thought the thing was that none of the cool features such as free 3g internet worked unless you had the 02 contract?? im not too fussed about paying for it, im paying £50 a month at the moment for my blackberry so i presume the iphone deal will work out about the same.

nope - all you need is a contract (with any provider) that allows you free web browsing. My current o2 sim - not on an iphone contract - allows me 3gig data per month. You see, o2 allow you to have a free bolt-on. Be it a txt, minutes, o2 to o2 calls or data bolt on. So - i've added this to my existing contract, bought a iphone, unlocked it and I use my current o2 sim. No need for a iphone 18 month contract.
What dont make sense is why any1 wud sign an 18 month iphone contract, especially when in terms of value - the user is getting so little.
I know o2 literally won the iphone contract in the dying minutes of injury time. (I know coz they told us so at the opening of the 'o2') O2's ceo flew to San Fran to meet with Steve Jobs and basically agreed to whatever terms apple put on the table.
I doubt the iphone makes o2 alot of money but in terms of market awareness, even max clifford couldn't drum up a bigger hype.
Its a win win for o2 - and for apple - next june will come a bigger (& smaller) iphone.

WWDC 2008 - new iphone ?, by wave on Jun 10, 2008 0:21:44 GMT 1, I heard later on in the year they would be available with other providers, i.e. orange but nothing announced today to back that up so I quit my contract with orange in readyness. The pushy sales bloke told me iphones were not good "because you can't send photo messages". I pointed out that you could email photos instead. Hmm
Anyway basically 02 will have completely cornered the market with this, now even more so at this new price but i just don't understand why apple don't release it to all providers and completely dominate?

WWDC 2008 - new iphone ?, by Pure Evil on Jun 10, 2008 1:13:49 GMT 1, I bought one fer £160 about a month ago , and carphone warehouse unlocked it for use on orange... they had a guy do it instore in the Liverpool St branch.. BUT when you do that it voids the warranty so if you take it to the Apple store they wont help fix it.. the main button stopped working but i did some 'impact adjustment' (whacked it on all edges 2wice) and that made the button work again...
iphones are cool but glitchy little feckers.. I prefer my Nokia N95
