thats a bugger!.. yes, do it.. bigger screen is always better, i used to use a laptop to design but succumb to a desktop because it is so much easier

i've just ordered the 20" iMac which is plenty big enough for little me, but the 24" is pretty impressive. I say go for it!

I have been playing around on my boyfriend's one and it is pretty nice, and you get so much more for your money getting a desktop.

This will be my first apple, looking forward to it getting here!

if you do buy from the apple store, check to see if they will give you a discount.

They give a discount of approx 7.5% for those who work in the emergency services, teachers, doctors etc etc etc....

I'm looking to replace my dual 1.42ghz G4 and have seriously considered the 24" iMac over a Mac Pro, mainly as I'm getting a nice new screen into the bargain. I think if your doing video editing, Affer Effects, etc then the Mac Pro's are the only real option but for everything else I think the new iMac's are top drawer. Max out the memory but don't buy it off Apple for £450 extra, go to crucial.com and get it from there (£150 ex VAT). You can even flog the 1 or 2gb that came with it to make it even cheaper.

PS: I've tried to find speed comparisons with my old Mac and the new iMac, do you think the iMac will be quicker?

No Yearly limit as far I know.
Then again if you need 10, you might get into complication.
You also might need as well as the card, a written paper work from the school stating the person is studying there.

I have a 17 inch power book and a 30 inch monitor for my G5... and I say the bigger, the better ;D Especially if you're creating artwork! A 24 inch would be real nice IMO

since they just refreshed the iMac line, now is a good time to pick one up if you are in the market for a new computer. friend of mine just got the 24" and really likes it. the screen is like having a windshield in front of you so i hope you have some space for that beast.

as for regular vs pro, i think if you are doing video/photo/music stuff, then the stand alone video card and higher end stuff of the pro line are worth it. if you are just doing some basic photo or music stuff and internet/email, then go with the regular versions and max RAM.

and if you are considering the MacBook or MacBookPro, then i'd hold off since these systems will be getting refreshed between Oct - Jan. new chips, new OS, new form factors, etc.

i love mac's I have to use a PC for the design software i use.
since i have been using PC's i think i have called the guy out to sort them out about three or four times had about the same amount of new hard drives, had untold problems, where the computer just grinds to a halt. This one I'm on now i don't as a rule use for the Internet to try and stop strange things and pop ups and other associated problems you pick up while surfing the net.

In three years of my newly diseased ibook i have not had a single problem. I know all the files on there can be reached from my another mac with firewire.

I just wonder if i can run my articad program on the new imac with that parallels program?

Travel plans have been put on hold for a little while for work but we hope to head off in a couple of months. Something to look forward to anyway!

Mike- I ordered the mac from their online store, I wish I had gone and picked it up now as its taken like two weeks! I just figured delivery is free and my nearest apple shop is an hours drive away. The wait is nearly over though.

Now just need to get used to using a Mac!
