Damien Hirst Butterfly windows scandal!, by hexagonsun on Feb 26, 2007 20:46:24 GMT 1, lots of artists work that way. some haven't even got a studio, they just draw up plans and lets some metal shop handle the rest.
Well yes, thats common sense, if you need a metal sculpture then thats where you go, but i dont think its right that other people paint his pictures. Otherwise anyone could go "paint me a tree" and then sell it off.
Do you think Banksy paints his works on the streets on his own?
He holds the spray can most of the time..and anyway, im not expected to pay millions of pounds for banksy's A. because they arent of that value B. because theyre painted on walls...
I never said other artists dont do it. I said i dont agree with it.
-ve coming my way i can see lol.

Damien Hirst Butterfly windows scandal!, by BK83 on Feb 26, 2007 21:21:44 GMT 1, why are people so down on collective art houses with 20-30 staff artists performing under one name (brand)? That is, has and always will be the case with majority of the big names in art and art history. The renaissance masters did it all the way through up to arguably the most famous case of Warhol and continuing now with Hirst and of course Banksy! for the most part art is conceptual (this is especially the case with Hirst who works mostly with large scale installations) so I guess it depends on which you find more pleasing in the art you like -- the concept, or the medium and brushstrokes...? In reality, I think if you're on the Banksy forum and/or are into streetart then you're pretty much a conceptual art fan....

Damien Hirst Butterfly windows scandal!, by tadghostal on Feb 26, 2007 21:36:34 GMT 1, See what a lively conversation we're having!
BTW, nu--you can eulogize the guy for what he's done to create the art scene and for kicking the doors down for Banksy, et al. Won't disagree there. But I still feel like Hirst is so far removed from being an artist, and when I look at pictures of his work, they leave me feeling cheated. Perhaps he pickled and sold his inner artist at one of his past shows so he'd have enough money to buy his exalted ink jet printer?

agreed.. he lost it an age ago, makes a better collector than an artist these days, still, interesting bloke.

Damien Hirst Butterfly windows scandal!, by pezlow on Feb 27, 2007 10:26:37 GMT 1, p.s. A little while ago I met the figurative artist Ray Richardson. He was a contemporary of Hirst et al at Goldsmiths. Whilst Richardson's style could not be more different that Hirst he was very complimentary about hirst and the rest of the YBA movement. I've never met an artist yet who has a harsh word to say about Hirst. Many think that he is a genius.
