Will St Leger - Ban Land Mines, by mred on Apr 21, 2007 17:31:59 GMT 1, Came across this guy by accident via a link from Nick Walker's Myspace page. Not sure why but really liked his Victoria Femme Fatale image, which he is using as the flyer / promo for his current show in Dublin. Amazingly other half also likes it!!! Cool so for once might even get permission for next purchase rather than having to beg for forgiveness as usual.
Would love to check out the show but work / funds have meant not possible this time around. Has anyone been to the show and if so any picture / thoughts.
I think next best thing is to get myself a print to keep me going until he has a show closer or funds are looking rosier.
P.S. He has a website, currently only one page from what I can see, www.willsaint.com/, but really like the way he went about publicizing International Day for Mine Awareness (4th April if you did not know). If I lived in Dublin I would be on a mission to find myself one of those green beauties.
Let hear your thoughts.

Will St Leger - Ban Land Mines, by Strange Al on Apr 22, 2007 11:29:25 GMT 1, Will St Leger is obviously a bit of a Banksy fan and his work looks pretty well executed (from what you can see on the website). I'd definitely be interested in seeing more of his stuff in closer detail.
The Landmine stunt sounds interesting. In the current climate he's lucky not to have been arrested. It could easily have resulted in similar outcome to Turner Broadcasting's recent ad campaign in the US. Though, I guess publicity is what he is courting. Certainly a worthwhile issue to campaign.
I think many will say his works look pretty generic and lack originality. He makes use of all of the classic stencil elements - guns, celebs, religious iconography, etc and I'm pretty sure we'll find that some of his other pieces will include gas masks, angels, flags and the royal family. Though, I actually don't mind that. This type of iconography is symbolic of society today and touches on issues which should be adressed.
I think that "Celebrity, Guns and Ammo" is the perfect title for a show in the weeks following the Virginia Tech shootings. Given Will's Landmine stunt, one would hope his show highlights the horror of our celebrity/gun culture. However, having only seen the Victoria Femme Fatale piece, I fear that his imagery may actually glorify both. I guess we'll see.
Finally, I know we say it all the time, but I just can't get over how prices have shifted in the last 6 months. Will may have been exhibiting for years - I have to admit that I know pretty much nothing about him. But he's certainly not an established name. 150-200 Euros for his Giclee prints seems pretty expensive to me. But I guess he knows what his buyers are willing to pay. Personally, if they were a little cheaper then I'd be tempted, but not at those prices.

Will St Leger - Ban Land Mines, by romanywg on Apr 22, 2007 12:28:58 GMT 1, Well I've just ordered the Victoria Femme Fatale. I'll let you know what the quality is like once I've received it. Strong image, love it. Interestingly as a designer in the 90's he produced the six limited edition Beckβs bottles working alongside artists such as Tracy Emin and Damien Hirst. Here is a link to another site showing a larger image of 'Madonna in the Ghetto'. Looks like a great line up for a stencil show in Texas! www.juxtapoz.com/cal/us/calendar.php?mode=view&id=560

Will St Leger - Ban Land Mines, by mred on Apr 22, 2007 13:14:03 GMT 1, Along the lines of last few posts, have a look on WWW.Woostercollective.com there is a post on 20th April by Will showing picture of publicity stunt he did for Land Mine Awareness day. Also Metro article on his myspace site. Top bloke!!!
Seems people are posting few more pictures from various website, but none from show. Anyone pretty girls, or for that matter guys, from Dublin fair city who have or could get down to show and get us few pictures? Think it end next week so may be a bit late to ask but no harm asking.
jjoschi44 hear you point about prices, but they are still at level which is within most peoples league even if it means a little saving or use of plastic. Prices also sometimes reflect local cost of living and exchange rates, from memory when I visited Dublin few years ago prices were not as reasonable as I was expecting. Need some good stuff to come out of America whilst pound nice and strong!!!
I think if you like image worth getting, although if thinking of it as an investment maybe a little more risky.
Photos of show please

Will St Leger - Ban Land Mines, by Glitter G on Apr 22, 2007 14:30:52 GMT 1, I think the landmines stunt is great. Here there is a review of last year's exhibition, and first: soundtracksforthem.blogspot.com/2006/02/art-review-whats-difference-between.html I spend 10 minutes there, we'll executed pieces but supperficial and as jjoschi44 said lack of originality. I'll try to go to this one nad see what he is doing now and I'll post some pics. Usually there isn't much that I can ad to the forum. Sorry about my grammar.

Will St Leger - Ban Land Mines, by romanywg on May 16, 2007 8:47:20 GMT 1, I received number 10 but Will did say they were selling well but he still had some left. This print is already on the wonderfully overpriced hipart gallery www.hipartgallery.com/artists/willstleger/index.asp for Β£195 and hasn't isn't even sold out! But the owner did say 'I won't raise the price once it does sell out' so nice to know there are really caring people in the world.

Will St Leger - Ban Land Mines, by rickyc on May 16, 2007 9:31:48 GMT 1, I had an email overnight regarding availability
I mentioned to him that I want to order next week (what with pay day and all) and he came back saying that he doesn't think they will sell out for a while. Cost is β¬100 plus β¬5 p&h
Also, a second print, limited to 75, Khmer Rouge Rinse (hairdryer print above) has just been made into a GiclΓ©e print. Cost is β¬150 plus β¬5 p&h.
He did also say, and I quote "At the moment I'm inundated with requests so it may take a week or so before I can send anything out." Suggesting that they are on their way to selling out.

Will St Leger - Ban Land Mines, by Strange Al on May 16, 2007 17:08:12 GMT 1, Roman -
Given people's preference for screenprints, the price of the Giclees is strange. I would like his "Duty Free State" image, but it's a giclee and can't justify the 200 Euros. I would definitely have bought a screenprint version at the same price as the VFF.
That said, Giclees can be much more expensive to produce than the screenprints. Hence, the profit margins for his screenprints and giclees are probably pretty similar.
