Damien Hirst Interview, by corblimeylimey on Jun 2, 2007 14:37:51 GMT 1, Did anyone see the Hirst interview with Kirsty Wark on BBC2 last night? I thought it was very interesting, though not much new, except for the talk about his new exhibition and For The Love Of God diamond skull.
Banksy gets a split second with a mention of him being one of his heroes (don't blink)
If you missed it you can watch it here (31min interview).

It is likely Steven Cohen... he is a billionaire hedge-fund manager and collects major artwork.

Damien Hirst Interview, by romanywg on Jun 2, 2007 18:20:29 GMT 1, In The Telegraph today Hirst quoted. 'I'm terrified of standing still and becoming predictable...doing the same old stuff with a twist' Wish other artists would take note. About 8 months ago I asked the price on a human skull covered with turquoise in Tomtom and they told me 'Damien Hirst is very interested in that' Inspiration possibly?

I think it was, I watched it last night so I can't remember it all but I think that was mentioned. Anyone who's just watched it, am I right?

Damien Hirst Interview, by wildbill on Jun 3, 2007 3:17:13 GMT 1, throw that skull on a chain and bling bling That shit is ridiculous!
diamonds are f*cking stupid. the only reason they are so valuable is because a bunch of rich clowns tell us they are, and shamefully most of us believe it.
they are the biggest waste of money on earth. there are plenty of stones that are just as nice and cheap synthetics are even more brilliant and nearly perfect.

Only the ones you list are not responsible for 4 million deaths, child soldiers, amputations, rapes and torture. The diamond trade has long financed the slaughter of the innocent as well as financed an awful lot of civil wars in Africa supported by both the Americans and the communists. Just so some fat ignorant mcdaonalds munching westerner can get down on one knee and propose to his fat ignorant lattรฉ slurping girlfriend..

I've seen that movie with Nicholas Cage and Jared Leto. I can't remember the name of that movie, but it was horrific. Very, very wrong. Ugh.

Damien Hirst Interview, by finsburyparkranger on Jun 3, 2007 12:20:37 GMT 1, Yeah and the moral of the story was that currently you should never buy diamonds because you can never be sure any diamonds are ethical because they are so often actually transported from slave gang African militia's and then legitimized on western soil. Its like selling ethical tears, bit bloody dodgy. As someone said already, using beautiful fake stones, with a reminder about the current politics involving diamonds after pretending they are real and playing with the art communities concept of beauty and intrinsic value would have actually been so, so much better.
Maybe thats actually still the plan !

Damien Hirst Interview, by ell on Jun 3, 2007 16:25:47 GMT 1, yeah true Nuart. very good point but for example nike etc pay next to nothing to get people to make their stuff which they sell for a lot more than it cost to make. whilst the people making them are living in extreme poverty. i know its not really on the same scale but practically everything you buy has ethical problems with it. sorry i dont know if what im trying to say is coming out right, im not the best person to explain things (im dyslexic!) i guess what im trying to say is that everything that consequences and some are terrible like diamonds and more extreme but a lot of things affect others in a negative way which are maybe less extreme so therefore less publicised.
Damien Hirst said he didnt use conflict diamonds though. i always wonder though, how do you know that they aren't conflict diamonds. and arn't they all conflict diamonds to a certain extent?
