Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by frank11 on Mar 7, 2008 14:08:33 GMT 1, Has anyone considered that maybe, given his anonimity, Banksy is leaving pieces on the walls of establishments or people that somehow have touched his life? Perhaps the pharmacist was particularly helpful when he was ill, or maybe he had an amazing night hanging out with the old geezers at Bethnal Green Working Mens Club. Or maybe he researches the owners who might benefit from the sale of his work. It's a long shot, but food for thought.
Love the idea.... ;D
Yes the pharmacist helped banksy out when he was suffering from a chesty cough bought on by spray paint inhalation..lol

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by savilerogue on Mar 7, 2008 15:38:15 GMT 1, I would rather see this ruined by something like a car being burnt out infront of it than sold. Why should the chemist make a profit on it.Banksy's worked really hard to get his name out there. I wonder if he would've painted it there if he knew it might be sold. If this keeps happening i reckon we will start seeing less street stuff by the man.
It is absolutely inconceivable that he would not have realised that everything he now does on the street is at risk of being ripped down and sold.
It's a risk I'm sure is he happy to take, especially in light of how much publicity it attracts.

For once, i didn't paste up but painted a few pieces when i was in london for my show and hoped they would last a bit !
please, if you see this piece for sale somewhere, just DON'T BUY it ! (and let me know where it is)

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by maadbeats on Mar 8, 2008 1:04:29 GMT 1, It is sad. Maybe most of the peoples building he painted on dont have much to their name. And this is a way out for them. When your down in a hole, Art is the last thing your thinking about. Hopefully these buildings are helping people in need that own/work/live there. Banksy will just have to paint government owned buildings. Cant cut a piece out of them.

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by thinkbank on Mar 10, 2008 10:33:04 GMT 1, How can people have a go at the shopkeeper? He or she has probably never heard of Banksy.
If you want to have a go at anyone blame the greedy collectors who have probably offered the shop huge sums of money to protect and remove the wall....
Who wouldnt accept 200,000k plus for a bit of replastering??
At the end of the day its street art and it should live and die there. I dont think walls pieces should be removed never to be seen again...but thats the way it is now.
Banksy is a victim of his own success....

Its only a bit of paint on the street its just that its now ''''worth''' money people start to cry about it.

Sadly it is the way of the world Jef. I hope it doesn't put you off putting up your street pieces in future, otherwise these people have really won.
Maybe you should try and just put them up on more permanent structures - brickwork or concrete?

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by stenz1 on Mar 10, 2008 12:22:22 GMT 1, Has anyone considered that maybe, given his anonimity, Banksy is leaving pieces on the walls of establishments or people that somehow have touched his life? Perhaps the pharmacist was particularly helpful when he was ill, or maybe he had an amazing night hanging out with the old geezers at Bethnal Green Working Mens Club. Or maybe he researches the owners who might benefit from the sale of his work. It's a long shot, but food for thought.

A funny thing would have been to go around painting rats signing them with banksy and laugh at people selling and buying them on ebay!! Anyone in London considered that?

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by Jef Aerosol on Mar 10, 2008 14:03:46 GMT 1, Whatson, this is quite a perverse idea but it would be fun : paintings loads of fake Banksys everywhere !!! A very situationist way of killing the worm in the fruit ! By the way, people : feel free to spray my red arrow wherever it pleases you ! Let's make street art a free thing again !
Only what we display in galleries should be "buyable", the street is free art for all... Once for all, let's make it clear that street paintings have no money value ! If we ALL agree on that, we'll save the spirit of that street art we love so much !
