Banksy Mystic Swing art.............., by flatcap on Sept 27, 2008 21:49:41 GMT 1, ......not stencil, a hand job as it were!
Hello all,
Yep, it's a Banksy, yep it's genuine (see p.10-11, "Banksy's Bristol "Home Sweet Home"" by Steve Wright). For more pics see www.mysticswing.co.uk. It used to be the frontage - or "flash" - on a fairground ride.
I'm not looking for a fortune for this piece. It has to go due to lack of storage. Make me an offer... although a thought-out one!!
The piece is roughly 6m wide and 3.5m tall (although it folds a third of the way up, so it would fit under roughly 2m). It has now been carefully cut off the ride and is painted on galvanised steel, double-laquered on a 30mm box section frame... so the piece is rougly 32mm thick.
This is not stencil.... this is freehand Banksy (2000) with the lettering done by the celebrated fairground artist Dave "W.E.T." Panit.
This might be irrelevant to some but the money is going part of the way to buy a travellers/ showman's winter park-up... the one's who do the festivals entertaining and spend the winter being evicted and harassed. I.E. a genuine reason for the sale!!!
A total one-off!! (And we need the cash!)
Discuss.....!

Banksy Mystic Swing art.............., by j8jweb on Sept 27, 2008 22:17:27 GMT 1, Interesting to see another freehand piece... he says he can't draw but I personally think he draws nicely, although I do prefer the stencil stuff.
The difficulty with selling this piece may be that presumably Pest Control won't authenticate it... which means you'll be looking at selling it as an unauthenticated Banksy piece. I was at the auction earlier today and noted that a similarly positioned piece, Fungle Junk, sold for ยฃ60k (actually not sure this even hit reserve)... anyway the high bid was well under the estimate of ยฃ150k.
I'm not sure how this piece would compare to Fungle Junk as a "seminal" Banksy piece but going by today's standards you'll presumably be able to shift it for something in that ballpark. Freehand Banksy pieces are pretty rare but the artist doesn't really want works created for a specific real-world setting removed and sold for profit.
You never know, maybe Pest Control will authenticate it... may be worth a go. If you can get a certificate from them then you would clearly be looking at much more.

Banksy Mystic Swing art.............., by Daniel Silk on Sept 27, 2008 23:18:44 GMT 1, I would think PestControl would authenticate it Its not a street piece, and I would guess Banksy would have been paid at the time to paint it.
(Could be wrong)

Banksy Mystic Swing art.............., by cutty on Sept 28, 2008 9:26:21 GMT 1, Yeah good call Silky.....
This is miles away from the L&T pieces that are in the news at the moment. Even if you don't get it authenticated it is Banksy and most people know it(?Could be wrong) Sad you have to sell I guess, would be pretty cool hanging in the kids room??? Good luck team.
Cheers

Banksy Mystic Swing art.............., by flatcap on Sept 28, 2008 12:42:08 GMT 1, I didn't make much of an effort at selling it last year to be honest and I've been working the festival circuit all summer. This winter it does have to go though!
I've been trying all morning to find contact details for PestControl but have so far drawn a blank - can anyone help?? Ta!

If you do a search here under pest control there are plenty of links....

Banksy Mystic Swing art.............., by flatcap on Sept 29, 2008 13:45:08 GMT 1, All the "inside" pieces were bought by one buyer by at a happy price and therefore withdrawn from Ebay. It was my preference for them all to stay together.
Thanks Ross for the link!!

Banksy Mystic Swing art.............., by Happy Shopper on Sept 29, 2008 18:38:22 GMT 1, What a weird one. Is it art or just illustration? I wonder if Pest Control will authenticate it, or want it out of circulation?
