Banksy - New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina, by BONZO on Aug 28, 2008 12:34:36 GMT 1, I remember reading about him (Radtke) a few years back - there is (was!?) an artist in New Orleans who hand carved and painted these signs and hung them up on lamp posts and they all got ruined by The Grey Ghost's rollering technique.
It wouldn't be so bad if he actually buffed the whole wall - the bone-idle fu©kwit!

Would be funny to put signs on telegraph poles saying "Fred Radtke will be graffiting here soon. Watch this space" Could end up with a catch 22 in a very funny way...any others with a good catch phrase.........

Banksy - New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina, by danvnuk on Aug 28, 2008 13:17:00 GMT 1, wow - v.nice work.
What I find interesting is that Banksy's style has evolved into almost lifelike 3D'esque figures ...the execution is quite obviously getting better and better....
Glad to see he hasn't completely dropped off the radar.

Banksy - New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina, by spirit on Aug 28, 2008 13:53:03 GMT 1, I totally agree with you there danvnuk. These "lifelike 3D" figures look like they might even have an element of hand finishing to them - the different greens in the soldiers seem to just blend into each other in some places without hard edges. If that is all done with layered stencils its an amazing technique...
I like the variation in his style too - the coloured looting soldiers, the monotone girl with umbrella and the mixing up of the two styles in the boy flying the fridge kite.
I think my favourites are the Gray Ghost pieces because of the story behind them - the superhero of Graffiti takes on his arch enemy - the evil villain Gray Ghost, who wants to paint the whole world grey! I like the how the body of the gray ghost is painted in colour but his head is in a very sinister looking black silhouette.
Unfortunately I think that Gray Ghost might get the last word because he lives there and Mr B will have to come home some time...
It's interesting how he (GG) painted out the rest of the flowers in that piece but left the depiction of himself untouched (if indeed it was him who did it)

Banksy - New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina, by doublehelix on Aug 28, 2008 14:00:15 GMT 1, I don't think it was gray ghost who painted out the flowers, it's not the right colour paint for a start and he would have more than likely obliterated the entire image. Anyone know who did paint them out?

Er....could it have been Banksy - is that not the point?
IMO - all of this work is really clever, amazing placement, some real deep messages - well done Mr. B.

I'm talking about the peach paint that was obviously added by someone else after the original piece was photographed that covered up the flowers completely. Not the grey pain that was obviously part of the original piece created bt Mr B.

Banksy - New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina, by buffin on Aug 28, 2008 16:27:11 GMT 1, The more I look at the girl with umbrella the more I like it. Its classic Banksy - an apparently simple, funny image but with many possible deeper meanings.

Banksy - New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina, by barry cilit on Aug 28, 2008 17:16:26 GMT 1, All these new pieces are classic Banksy at his best! since I saw them yesterday, my mind started to wonder what if there was an another motive to his sudden bombardment of work over in the states... Yes they do tie in with the floods, but with all the run up to the elections going on over there at the moment is this in some way a furthered support to get Bush out? His message seems to be quite focused in each of these pieces. But then I thought... he could have done something similar in China during the Games etc... Is he building up some media coverage to doing a new show out there?? if so I'm going to save a bit up to fly out there and bag myself one of those umbrella prints!!!
