Banksy rat to boost sale price
A pub on the property market in Liverpool is expected to sell for twice its asking price after graffiti artist Banksy daubed a 20-foot-high rat on its facade, it has been reported.
The Whitehouse pub, which is derelict, is up for sale at £495,000 but estate agents predict it will be snapped up for as much as £1 million, the BBC reported.
Jonathan Owen, commercial sales director at estate agent Sutton Kersh, told the news provider: "We have received numerous enquiries from artists as a result of the painting.
"Banksy is internationally recognised and has numerous A-list celebrity followers," he added.
He claimed that the property provides an excellent opportunity for Banksy fans to add to their collection.
According to Steve Lazarides, Banksy''s art dealer, the street artist''s signature spray-painted rats on canvas sell for as much as £140,000, reports the New Statesman.
Mr Lazarides is responsible for the recent boom in street art, the publication claims, and has sold millions of pounds of graffiti art.

Pub sale’s Banksy art bonus OCT 31 2008 BY CATHERINE JONES, LIVERPOOL ECHO PROSPECTIVE buyers of a derelict Liverpool pub could be laughing all the way to the Banksy. Owner Frenson has put the former White House pub, which is on the ECHO’s Stop The Rot hitlist, up for sale for an asking price of £495,000. The building, at the corner of Duke Street and Berry Street, is in a sorry state. But whoever is willing to hand over the best part of £500,000 for the site will also become the owner of the giant “gunrat” mural by the famous graffiti artist. The artwork, described as Britain’s biggest Banksy, was sprayed on the derelict building as part of the Liverpool Biennial in 2004. Earlier this year, campaigners persuaded culture officials to uncover the mural, which was being disguised as part of a drive to hide grotspots.

Wow. If you can get the fly past organised, I'll call the BBC and the Sun.

BANKSY - Whitehouse Pub RAT, by Ged on Nov 4, 2008 15:04:37 GMT 1, I think the biggest problem for the potential buyer would be keeping the original image while returning the building to a usable state. Would be wicked if it could be used as a bar/pub again with that on the side. Could rename it the Water Rat

If you have upwards of half a mil to splash out that may not be a problem
