Santa Monica Auctions , by Michael Jacob on Jun 2, 2008 14:00:23 GMT 1, the auction was on Sunday. AM seemed way overpriced. Obeys Hope did great, being an AP.

Santa Monica Auctions , by jam on Jun 2, 2008 17:07:27 GMT 1, The second Banksy failed to sell... it didn't even receive an opening bid as the guidance was insanely high and the auctioneer didn't dome down below $165k. Silly auction to put the Banksy originals in anyhow, they should have been in Sothebys or Christies as they were much higher in value than the rest of the things at this sale.

I concur, though that Heavy Weaponry looks like it is on brown paper or cardboard with a crease down the middle which may present a problem for listing at the 2 big houses.

Santa Monica Auctions , by jam on Jun 2, 2008 17:19:20 GMT 1, Yes, it was on cardboard and had a manufacture crease in the middle so it wasn't damaged. It was an average piece but it had solid provenance and a cool story behind it (I spoke at length with the owner about it). It was a local auction for them, so that was the explanation of why it was in such a poor sale... still a massive mistake and it would have done much better somewhere else.

Santa Monica Auctions , by lee3 on Jun 2, 2008 19:45:22 GMT 1, I just recieved an email from the auction house stating that they do not post auction results. I've never heard of such a policy and find it more than a little strange. What good does that serve anyone and why as a potential buyer or seller would I even entertain doing business with a place with that policy? Transparency is one of the more important aspects to the growth of this market imo, and any prohibitive policy like that is a death wish from my point of view. I'm as amused as I am amzed.

Santa Monica Auctions , by nombei on Jun 4, 2008 22:34:42 GMT 1, you aren't kidding about those Barry McGee's!
i've always wondered what happened to all of the pieces he did for this club in SF called the Justice League back in 97/98 or so. i remember them being better than the ones in that auction. hopefully someone was smart enough to grab them when that club changed ownership.

Santa Monica Auctions , by remebrigs on Jun 8, 2016 19:20:41 GMT 1, Dear amazing friends,
We are a week away and I invite you to join me for a very special night. On Wednesday, June 15 we are hosting an art auction in Santa Monica at the Arena 1 Gallery from 7-10pm to raise funds for ALS research. What is ALS? ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive motor neuron disease that results in the inability of the brain to initiate muscle movement. People diagnosed with ALS generally lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, then breathe, leading to their death in 2-4 years. From the time someone is diagnosed to the time of death, patients experience total body paralyzation while their brain and thought process are left completely intact, trapped in an otherwise perfectly healthy body.
It is a stellar collection of works shared by top artists and celebrities. Including our friends Blek Le Rat, Mr. Andre, Shepard Fairey, Faile, David LaChapelle, Cryptik, Abcnt and many more! I'm truly blown away by the generosity. Our roster just earned us a piece in the Huffington Post.
Next year I'll do better at getting you know who involved!! Bidding has already started โ check it out here and find your favorites. Please buy tix here ($50 each, fully tax-deductible) and join me. Music, food, drinks and art โ a great way to start summer.
PS. You do not need to attend to the event to bid on the art! Thank you and see you next Wednesday!
