Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by funster on Feb 26, 2009 21:52:10 GMT 1, Looks like Banksy is paying a price for falling out with Laz!! Got to give credit where credits due, he knew how to promote him to the max!! have to agree with that, the painting 'laugh now' has come back to haunt him - seems like monkeys really are in charge! - meet the flockers didn't even get started. Hope he put a few quid aside for his pension.
Frankie you don't learn!! ;D

I know Im new to this part of the art scene and its all horse for courses but i never understood the prices for Neate originals. Does he have a lot of history or something? I look at what else I could buy in terms of established fine art for the same prices and just wonder? Im not dissing him, I just dont get it i suppose.

The prices for Neate originals are based on the fact that they are fucking incredible.
Mind you, i'm talking about the gallery pieces here...

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by jimbob68 on Feb 26, 2009 23:03:13 GMT 1, I think safe to say that all parts of the art market are now correcting themselves. Clearly shown with the number of unsold banksys of all desciptions. Its good for collectors who buy for the proper reasons, to keep and hang on the walls! i dont think we have got the investors buying because its cheaper yet do you?

I think its fair to say that he does paint better than most as I said its personal taste but i would have to disagree on that point. He is certainly confident in his line work and it almost reminds me sometimes of japanese brush paintings but i wouldn't call him a better painter than micallef , grimshaw or denning. And I dont know definitely but I thin k i could probably get a nice Ray Richardson for similar moneys to some of the neate prices and he uses paint incredibly well.

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by Billy Sport on Feb 26, 2009 23:17:06 GMT 1, interesting night, met quite a few people from here, had a bid on one of the basts and was going to go for the second denning, should have gone for the first.
also noticed on a few of the lots that hands went up just as auctioneer hit the hammer on gavel (francis piece someone was bidding on, the woman was too slow). and it is pronounced RYKA apparently!!!

Micallef maybe not, but I was only talking about the street sphere within which he is unrivalled in terms of beauty and depth

Absolutely gutted about this one, I desperately wanted the smiley but it went for Β£2200 in the end, I maxed at 1500. Really fantastic piece, but I think whoever else was bidding was determined to get it.

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by edcase on Feb 27, 2009 0:34:29 GMT 1, What makes me laugh, is how many people have been banging on about wanting a piece from Judith Supine for so long, then three fantastic pieces come up in the space of a week at very reasonable prices and only one of them sells (and a steal at that!)
Maybe that crazy guy WHO WROTE EVERTYHING IN CAPS wasn't so far wide of the mark after all, or maybe everyone is just broke?

165 lots - 80% sold - thats pretty good in my opinion - or do you base the success of an auction on a specific artist?
