Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by Deleted on Mar 29, 2010 17:35:40 GMT 1, I have slight hesitations about items put in by the artists themselves. Id much prefer to see an upcoming artist bomb the streets with the image/s before they start selling versions of them in auctions and elsewhere.
For me the grey area is the word 'urban'. At the end of the day in my opinion most of this is street art. Art painted on the streets or images taken from the streets and put on mediums that allow the street images to be in your home.
Under the urban bracket. An artist can pick up a broken bit of wood, paint a 2nd rate stencil on it and call it urban art. Never go out and put up, just sit in a comfortable warm studio in knock out piece after piece.
Im not having a dig at anyone, just airing my concerns for the scene.
This is just mho of the scene at the mo. No

Agreed
Personally I'm not that excited about the auction. Some nice Banksy prints for sale, good to see some new names, but a lot of images that I'm pretty bored off now. Also not too sure about some of the Parla's on offer, very weak IMO...

Does anyone know if Bonhams will do another Urban sale ?

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by volvic on Mar 30, 2010 14:41:03 GMT 1, This is not pushing urban art in the right direction and the lots seems like the dregs of peoples collections are being thrown up for offer. such a shame as you look at auctions put together by phillips etc and its a much stronger selection, personally if i was parla neate and faile i would be pretty embarrassed to have there work associated with this 'genre' even if the examples shown here are pretty weak ones.

You dont like but please show a tad more respect for an Artists work. In the same way you might expect the same when you show your work on here
Thanks

I love it when artists think its ok to flame other artists, especially with the reaction your work got

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by jusdeep on Apr 7, 2010 17:17:05 GMT 1, What's the deal with artists and galleries putting works straight to auction or possibly a short while after not selling from release? Seems to be getting more commonplace nowadays with certain galleries and auction houses in the urban art field. Don't know other peoples views on this subject, but I'm not sure it looks good from either perspective.

I agree with you - not sure about this trend at all.
