Dreweatts Art Auctions 🇬🇧, by Deleted on Apr 11, 2010 20:49:10 GMT 1, I like the way that Dreaweatts mix and match up the artists for their auctions. why should auctions be full of £100k banksys. go to an average auction house selling whatever and see what prices things fetch. my feeling is its just people worried about the value of their collections being effected by results. I'm going to try and pick up some bargains. A few bits I like.

Dreweatts Art Auctions 🇬🇧, by Scraffer on Apr 12, 2010 10:06:47 GMT 1, Diversity is good IMHO. Think about Laz, he has a rather motley bunch of artists. Could Banksy be further from, say Jonny Yeo, and Mclauchlan.....?

Dreweatts Art Auctions 🇬🇧, by ricobenfico on Apr 12, 2010 21:55:49 GMT 1, I agree with the comments above. Quite a few pieces submitted by artists on here. I almost feel if we organised our own online auction they could have sold them on here save on all the seller and buyer fee's!!!
And a LV Child estimates £500-£800 when they are still on open sale for 1/4 that (never mid fee's)!!!

Dreweatts Art Auctions 🇬🇧, by PRO on Apr 13, 2010 18:37:07 GMT 1, That nick walker is piss poor, and i just noticed allot of the work by less known/new artists have been submitted by themselves whats that all about ? surely you could get a piece commissioned for less than £600/800 or is that the going rate these days for unestablished artists. IMO allot of work will go unsold

I also agree with the above comments too...any art auction has a variety of prices and mis judged estimates....

Dreweatts Art Auctions 🇬🇧, by krypto on Apr 16, 2010 23:50:05 GMT 1, I think everyone takes these Dreweatt auctions the wrong way. I Think of them like a show where you can spend your time looking at the work without panicking that someone else is going to stroll up to the desk and buy it. Then at the end of the show everything gets sold to the highest bidder ! simple and stress free. More power to them i say !

Yes. I went to the viewing on Thursday. Very mixed bag as has been said already but on the positive side some very nice stuff.

Dreweatts Art Auctions 🇬🇧, by K-Guy on Apr 17, 2010 14:49:50 GMT 1, I've just taken a peek at the online and also have a printed catalogue version of the Dreweatts auction and would have to agree with the general census of opinion - if I hadn't seen most the pieces in the flesh.
As we know the problem with viewing art via a computer is never going to do it justice, the really low resolution means that any detail/texture/finish/sharpness/depth etc. is totally lost via a 72dpi jpg.
I was to say the least, very disappointed seeing my piece less than accurately represented and think it's a case in point. I've attached a much better photo of my Coke Moss Zero Kate on copper and if you then cross reference it with the picture used in the online catalogue, I think you'll agree there's a massive difference how the piece is perceived.

Dreweatts Art Auctions 🇬🇧, by RYCA on Apr 20, 2010 6:52:44 GMT 1, exactly mr K ! the picture of my piece 'big love' makes it look flat, they trimmed the framed offf the picture too! oh well had some positive feedback from people who have seen it in the flesh.
From what i saw, when i dropped off, there is alot of great bits of work. The reasons i submit my own work are simple, (1) cut out the middle man. In previous auctions i had lost 15% (standard) to the auction house and then 50% of the remaining money to the 'middle man'. It seemed crazy ! i was losing out, seeing as i had to put in all the work to create the piece! Now I use the auction houses (bonhams/dreweatts) to sell (2) unique work or special pieces, this way is fairer for people wanting to buy them. There is also the fact that by being involved your work reaches a wider audience (3).
