Mr Brainwash sells out, again, by Winter on Dec 17, 2009 0:31:55 GMT 1, Just seen that MBW's latest batch have sold out pretty much straight away (320 prints) in a matter of hours. I know what most people on here think of him but who is buying up work? I'm guessing a US following.

Mr Brainwash sells out, again, by Sohoria on Dec 17, 2009 0:36:12 GMT 1, MBW i never really got into but liked his art pieces recently... the boxer i think was beautiful art piece but think was going for 6k?....
im not going to regret not getting his art prints but honestly interested in what he does next... if more art pieces like the boxer or mohammad ali i think would be interested in his artwork on my walls next year once things get back to normal....
wont say who but someone got amazing original for fantastic price recently and from him have tended to show more interest in his work... i dont like everything he does but as i said the boxer art piece was one of my favorites this year...s

Mr Brainwash sells out, again, by Drymounted on Dec 17, 2009 1:25:43 GMT 1, Yet to see a piece of his I really love. Wouldn't mind a can to add to my Soup Can collection. Does worry me he'll get bigger than Banksy though Possibly from a commercial sense, but I'm doubting that many of his pieces will command Banksy like dollars, minus a few select prints. I think this NYC show and the possible London show will be critical in determining his long term appeal to the masses.
As far as his fine art originals, it should be interesting to see where he stands. Again...This NYC will be make or break for MBW.

Mr Brainwash sells out, again, by Heavyconsumer on Dec 17, 2009 2:39:47 GMT 1, Have to say that although there have been just 1 or 2 of his prints which have appealed to me, I'm not a fan. However, that aside, I do think he's well on his way to proving himself as a commercial pop artist and a master of marketing. Good luck to him, but I remain unconvinced by most of his artwork.

my sentiments exactly.
Like the 'Kids Kissing', 'Jackson Pollack' and Mohammed Ali prints, but think a majority of his work is pretty weak.
He released about 5 "show prints" for his gig in London that has been rescheduled twice now I believe.
Hype at it's finest.

Mr Brainwash sells out, again, by cadeallaw on Dec 17, 2009 23:29:35 GMT 1, ::Yawn:: I'm even bored with defending Mr. Brainwash. In summary: Production value of his work is top notch, some of his images are very catchy while some are not, his stuff is selling REALLY WELL right now.
I don't understand why people get so bitter about all of this? Its all subjective... accept it and move on.

Mr Brainwash sells out, again, by monkeyballs on Dec 18, 2009 0:24:43 GMT 1, I think he is taking everyone for mugs. That many prints realistically selling out in that short space of time, again and again and no real % falling into scalpers hands? No real ebay market to speak of despite this apparent demand that means editions sell within hours of release from source?
Phase 1 appears part complete based on thread (get them wanting it because others clearly do) and the fact others are now for the first time talking about MBW as a profitable enterprise.
You really think those editions all sold out to true fans who want to keep all those prints? He has a better fan base than every other street artist on the planet, because everyone wants to keep there prints and he can eliminate flippers (again look at flipped prints against sales for everyone else with an established and real fan base, always way higher for a person who regularly sells out quickly)?
But when people start believing these are selling out, they start believing there is true value, the flippers will come, phase 1 complete (see above the seedlings, people talking of as big as banksy, they are talking about the money there in flipping prints, time to get on board before the boat sales kinda feeling). The last thing this project is about is the images on the paper, its about greed and how you can profit from the greed of this market place.
I have no doubt at all, he would be much further along than he is now were it not for the global recession.

Mr Brainwash sells out, again, by cadeallaw on Dec 18, 2009 3:27:04 GMT 1, I think he is taking everyone for mugs. Decent points... However, I'd like to make a few additional points:
1. He has a HUGE following in LA, and LA is notorious for believing that they are the only city that matters therefore if MBW is the most popular street artist in LA, they believe that MBW is the most popular street artist in the world (see the Carson Daily interview from early 2009 where he calls Mr Brainwash "the most recognized street artists in the world").
2. I'd say that NOW a decent percentage of his prints fall into the hands of flippers. His quickest sellout thus far was for 33rd St. (3 minutes), everything else could have been bought without problems so long as that individual was on their computer when MBW announced when the release was going to occur. Flippers didn't know to collect MBW until recently... and all of those prints that the flippers didn't bother with (however obviously still sold out) are the ones that are selling for the highest amounts. A Life is Beautiful print went for over $2,000 a few weeks ago.
3. Celebrities love the guy and Celebrities create buzz, therefore MBW is buzz.
4. He really has a huge fanbase of people who don't know anything about art forums or art blogs who, in addition, have a lot of money. These aren't necessarily the type of folk who are checking the Wooster Collective for the latest print releases or drops.
5. Some of his work is quite nice... aesthetically, compare LIB, 33rd St, Tomato Spray (sorry Rene), or even Legend with No Ball Games... MBW wins hands down.
