Mr Brainwash sells out, again, by justsomeyank on Dec 18, 2009 16:10:20 GMT 1, I think he is taking everyone for mugs. That many prints realistically selling out in that short space of time, again and again and no real % falling into scalpers hands? No real ebay market to speak of despite this apparent demand that means editions sell within hours of release from source? Decent points... However, I'd like to make a few additional points: 1. He has a HUGE following in LA, and LA is notorious for believing that they are the only city that matters therefore if MBW is the most popular street artist in LA, they believe that MBW is the most popular street artist in the world (see the Carson Daily interview from early 2009 where he calls Mr Brainwash "the most recognized street artists in the world"). 3. Celebrities love the guy and Celebrities create buzz, therefore MBW is buzz.
You're forgetting that people in LA (and especially celebrities) are also notorious for being incredibly fickle and will jump off the Mr. Brainwash bandwagon just as quickly as they jumped on.
I think some of his work is clever, but it doesn't really go much beyond that. Good for him if he can make a buck by putting a Marilyn Monroe wig on every celebrity he can find, but it doesn't make him a quality artist, it just makes him a successful artist, and those two distinctions can be quite different.
Although I'm not a fan of MBW, it seems that some people on here dislike him for reasons other than his art. Unlike other famous street artists (Banksy, Shep), there's a sense that he hasn't "paid his dues" because he didn't build a following on the street level, he built it through galleries and the established art world, something that street art is inherantly opposed to (or at least used to be). I don't necessarily agree or disagree with this assessment, just find it interesting how outside variables and opinions influence peoples' views of an artist, rather than the art itself.

Mr Brainwash sells out, again, by cadeallaw on Dec 18, 2009 16:12:03 GMT 1, validate his work by showing how much it's selling for. good stuff.
As opposed to validating someone as an artist by whether or not they have had a release on POW or not
Speaking of which, did you catch Dran fever this month? POW says you did!

Mr Brainwash sells out, again, by meatbag on Dec 20, 2009 3:25:50 GMT 1, I know what most people on here think of him but who is buying up work? I'm guessing a US following.
maybe, there are certainly a lot of suckas over here. My personal opinion is this nonsense could easily be part of his hoax like approach to everything. If this stuff was that popular and selling out and such you would see the pieces being flipped like mad which aint happening.

Mr Brainwash sells out, again, by monkeyballs on Jan 22, 2010 23:01:17 GMT 1, I think he is taking everyone for mugs. That many prints realistically selling out in that short space of time, again and again and no real % falling into scalpers hands? No real ebay market to speak of despite this apparent demand that means editions sell within hours of release from source? Phase 1 appears part complete based on thread (get them wanting it because others clearly do) and the fact others are now for the first time talking about MBW as a profitable enterprise. You really think those editions all sold out to true fans who want to keep all those prints? He has a better fan base than every other street artist on the planet, because everyone wants to keep there prints and he can eliminate flippers (again look at flipped prints against sales for everyone else with an established and real fan base, always way higher for a person who regularly sells out quickly)? But when people start believing these are selling out, they start believing there is true value, the flippers will come, phase 1 complete (see above the seedlings, people talking of as big as banksy, they are talking about the money there in flipping prints, time to get on board before the boat sales kinda feeling). The last thing this project is about is the images on the paper, its about greed and how you can profit from the greed of this market place. I have no doubt at all, he would be much further along than he is now were it not for the global recession.
Given the subject matter of the new film, I give myself a congratulatory pat on the back and once again call all MBW fans sheep!!! BAA!!! And the beauty is, you've been made, there's no come back, he took you all for mugs and you lapped it up, Madonna included.
Well played Banksy

Optimum time to sell will be after the NY show....That is unless it catapults him up higher than he already is, which could very much happen.
