IAN FRANCIS @ BLK MRKT SHOW, by peggysue on Aug 5, 2007 7:32:12 GMT 1, Can someone please post pics? Was anyone lucky enough to get a piece? I heard from a friend that was there tonight that everything was sold out? Can I get some clarification on this? I left several messages trying to get my hands on a canvas and never heard back.

IAN FRANCIS @ BLK MRKT SHOW, by shavemysoul on Aug 5, 2007 14:49:38 GMT 1, Any pics? Come on you Yanks, get your cameras out!
There's some thumbnails linked up to some of the work (I presume those are new originals - not that familiar with Ian's work so could be wrong) on the front page of www.blkmrktgallery.com/
Some beautiful pieces.

IAN FRANCIS @ BLK MRKT SHOW, by Gentle Mental on Aug 5, 2007 16:10:53 GMT 1, Saw the preview in Jpegs, super gorgeous. prices were reasonable too. next year this time, don't think anyone could get an Ian Francis original for less than £2000.
(any prints?)

IAN FRANCIS @ BLK MRKT SHOW, by Gentle Mental on Aug 6, 2007 3:05:31 GMT 1, yes, nothing under 2k, but "girl catches the train twice in london" (an instant sold out print) one of the most stunning pieces went for 4.5 k US... that's a little above 2k. Absolute bargain IMO.

I can bond. I respect your opinion that it's a lovely piece, but I just don't see anything in it. It would bore me within a couple of days of having it on my wall.

IAN FRANCIS @ BLK MRKT SHOW, by stuey09 on Aug 6, 2007 9:42:06 GMT 1, It's horses for courses isn't it. If your Grandma liked the Haywain, then that's good enough reason to put it on her wall. But I don't buy this particular Francis print for the reason I stated. What's more, you stated that you believe it won't last the day before it is sold out. Is this because of its quality or because the profiteers will bag them in the hope that Laz is going to exhibit Ian's work? I think we both know the answer.
Incidently, I think his work from the Black Market show is excellent and further exposes the Amy Allen print as very ordinary. Just my opinion though

IAN FRANCIS @ BLK MRKT SHOW, by sausageboonwee on Aug 6, 2007 9:54:10 GMT 1, I think the Black Market show is absolutely amazing. I think his prints are alright at best. I would love one of the new canvases but not a print. Regarding the profiteers, I think they will be in like a shot though not everything Laz touches turns to gold. Donwood is a good example. If Laz did have a show of Ian's originals I don't think the prices would be as kind as Black Markets. I'm pretty sure this is the first time the Haywain has been mentioned on this forum - just need some muppet to ask to see pics of it!

Forget the prints, no one wants them obviously. Everyone knows they're there and have been for months. A tiny edition at that. If you haven't already got a few Francis canvasses, then you've already missed the bus. Lovely work, but the prints will never have mass appeal.

IAN FRANCIS @ BLK MRKT SHOW, by numusic on Aug 6, 2007 12:15:41 GMT 1, think laz has something to answer for as well, to open the doors to the public and say "you know that artist whose work you have supported? Well, you aren't getting any! Here, have an overpriced print instead" is a bit of a joke. I know people will come up with reasons and excuses but that is just bulls**t in my opinion and speaks volumes as to what they think about the "small" people
Nature of the beast, would be naive of us to think otherwise.

IAN FRANCIS @ BLK MRKT SHOW, by numusic on Aug 6, 2007 13:11:53 GMT 1, I made the mistake of thinking that Laz would be different but obviously not. I heard some of Laz's crew talking about Micallef work the other day, basically saying that none of us stand a chance of getting original work (not that i was planning on buying) but if that's the case why do they send out this false emails saying that not of the work will be pre-sold via email? What they're basically saying is that it will be pre-sold by other means.... Why can't people just tell it like it is and not get everybodys hopes up? Naive, yes but they're making enough money in my opinion to go the extra mile and make sure a few non celebrities and friends stand a chance og buying something other than a fancy photocopy
I'm with you mate. But ideaology and business rarely mix to the benefit of the ideaology when run by a business man. Good luck to the man. He's done his bit for us all, time for someone else to step up and carry the flag.
