FAILE - The Art And Nothing But The Art, by ctc2 on Aug 30, 2007 2:42:30 GMT 1, I appreciate the artistic ability but outside of Mary and Vanity, I really saw nothing that I would consider hanging on my wall. Dont get me wrong, I really like looking at the work but I just did not feel a real need to own it. Just a matter of personal taste. Still dont get the Faile Stab. Faile may be nice people and give a s**t about the average Joe's and Betty's, but their prints were not priced for those types.

FAILE - The Art And Nothing But The Art, by bobbymeachamjr on Aug 30, 2007 2:52:23 GMT 1, If you have complaints about the faile prices - very low editions w/custom touches - then what do you think of the recent POW releases ie. silver sid / peace /cows etc etc
I'm not justifying the faile prices but from a relative standpoint...

FAILE - The Art And Nothing But The Art, by nombei on Aug 30, 2007 6:10:15 GMT 1, when i first found out about Faile, i really liked their work and bought a few pieces from their site. the workmanship on their prints is quite impressive and they do seem more like originals. i also picked up a few of the POW prints and while they aren't as nicely made as the NYC stuff, they are well worth the 25GBP. oh, and seeing their work on the streets of NYC, London and the huge piece at 11 Spring was also very impressive.
that said, i think it is time for the Faile kids to work on some new images instead of remixing images that they have used for several years now. while i applaud how many "new" prints they released this week, i can't say i saw that many new ideas in the prints. in fact, when i got a refund notice for the one print i did try to buy, i wasn't bummed.
i definitely look forward to seeing what they release towards the end of the year (though i think it might be more remix stuff), but i really want to see the new stuff they come up with in 2008.

FAILE - The Art And Nothing But The Art, by mp on Aug 30, 2007 6:36:06 GMT 1, Glad to see that they're good people with how they have responded over the past day or so. I got refunded, but was really looking forward to buying directly from them for the first time as I have had to resort to the secondary market for all prior purchases.
As far as them as artists, they are amazing. The first Faile I purchased was a Surfer Horse in White and I was shocked by the amount detail and depth they put into all of their prints. I now own four of their pieces, including first colorway of Mary and they are all truly great.
Now, here's a question. Anyone out there who was able to purchase their first Faile print during this release? You will be blown away once that tube arrives.

FAILE - The Art And Nothing But The Art, by pezlow on Aug 30, 2007 10:20:36 GMT 1, I think for sheer depth of work and for quality Faile can't be beaten. Strangely in a way this is a bit to their undoing. Some of the stuff they have released with POW is really very good - Captivating and Strange encounters for example. But because the prints do not have the "Faile love" of the NY prints, people are not so keen on them. Whereas if they were any other artists prints they would be lauded.
Of all the artists I collect (including Banksy!) I would say that Faile give me the most pleasure. Call me a simple lad but they are just brilliantly executed works that you want to stare at again again. I don't believe that there is much that is deep about their work but despite that, or perhaps because of it, I love it even more.
As for retiring the old images I am in two minds about this. Most contemporary artists have a certain "style" and for most this is no bad thing. Hirst uses a lot of skulls, butterflies, symbols of death etc in his work. Banksy loves rats. Is it any bad thing that Faile use their bunny boy, butterfly girl and other things repeatedly. I'm not sure that it is,

there are some strange people about, I wouldn't even begin to try and understand what goes on in some peoples' heads.

FAILE - The Art And Nothing But The Art, by jrallah on Aug 30, 2007 14:22:09 GMT 1, Overall, i was really impressed with the recent release...
..but not completely blown away. I'm a huge fan of Faile and have been since i found them, but I noticed that their new (and, i mean NEW, not remixed) pieces just seemed to lack a bit of the 'something' that first drew me to them. I don't know if this was due to their split with Aiko, but even as much as i loved all the new work, there was an element that is distinctly different about it compared to all the old skool Faile pieces. I'm not a huge fan of Aiko's solo work, but she did have a feminine-streety-dirtiness to her that for me really seemed to make everything about Faile come together. I mean, the girl cuts stencils that actually look like stencils and i personally really dig that.
I don't know where Faile's going from here (up, most likely) but I'll continue to support them in the hope that the two remaining members of the original trio will keep knocking out works of sheer dopeness. All in all, I'm sure their future releases will be exceptional, but I'm just really anxious to see them develop a solid blend of the old into the new.
And, huge ups to the boys for sorting out the whole refund mess!

.. I think there is a massive difference between pics on their site and the actual work in flesh .. .. I think we'll be blown away when the prints start to arrive .. mark my words .. .. or I would be if a got any ..

I completely agree with this, except that I cannot say that I loved any of the new (as in NEW - new) work brought out.
While some feel that the remixing and constant re-use of old images are a weakness, I believe that it's their strength and what makes Faile what they are. I also find an ambiguity and feeling in the old images that are only present in shadowform in the new ones. It feels like they're trying to come up with some more serendipity, and that it just isn't really happening in the new images... But perhaps this is because they haven't been worked on as much yet, and so still haven't found their context and feel?
There are exceptions, like the use of Nixon together with the bunny, or the vanity Mao, which I think bring a new dimension into the work while still referencing what has gone before. I also think that the Ganesh figure works really well.
