MATTY SMALLS originals, by shavemysoul on Sept 3, 2007 12:53:46 GMT 1, It requires an account so you can login to view.... All the same, thanks very much Dave... Interesting. I wonder if these were before he started painting portraits or at the same time. If the latter, I wonder why there are fewer examples of the scenescapes type around.

MATTY SMALLS originals, by dave313perry on Sept 3, 2007 12:58:17 GMT 1, I think the portraits seem to have more of an impact, so maybe the scenescapes are earlier work he feels he has developed from?? The dudes growing on me day by day though, as i discover more of his work. Dont quote me on it but he seems to be pretty much self-promotional which i credit very much to himself and work ethic, but i think if coupled with the right business minded person i.e Laz or similar he could do really reall well for himself.
Dave

MATTY SMALLS originals, by shavemysoul on Sept 3, 2007 13:01:25 GMT 1, I agree Dave. I do love his work.
Thanks for sharing these with us. I agree, the portraits are more emphatic. I think it's easy to look past his work on first glance; I certainly did. The more I've seen pieces the more I've liked them.
The potential is there. Like you say, right time, right support, he could become quite popular.

MATTY SMALLS originals, by dave313perry on Sept 3, 2007 13:04:41 GMT 1, Maybe if he gets a few nice pieces in a popular upcoming show next to a few big names then things could take off, meanwhile glad his prints are reasonably affordable. and 19 colour screenprint

MATTY SMALLS originals, by scavos on Sept 3, 2007 13:09:02 GMT 1, Great post Dave. I especially love this one...
Got to be Marvin's What's Going On? cover. So good I could eat it. I agree that when all things combine for him, he'll go very far. Pretty sure a certain Mr Manchester would agree too. ;D Hey, Dave isn't today the day? ;D

MATTY SMALLS originals, by dumpsuk on Sept 3, 2007 18:49:07 GMT 1, I'd just like to add, my 'moses' print arrived today. It took almost 5 weeks to arrive, but boy was it worth it. This is a truly stunning print. The best of all Mat's prints I've seen so far in terms of execution and print quality. It is a giclee, and is far superior, in the way it captures the essence of the original. I don't think the 19 colour screen prints work as well. Well done Mat, keep up the good work.

Dave I was introduced to Matt Smalls Work in Early 06 and have been hooked ever since, I met him a few times and been out for a beer with him, he is a true gent and loves what he does. there are two galleries that he works with.. TLSG and sesame www.sesameart.com/searchresults.php?artistform=44wor, what I love about his work is that in the flesh its simply jaw dropping, When I bought mine I didn't have to think about it for a second, it was just the right thing to do. What's also nice is that he has not been swept up in the hype thing as his work reaches further than just street art collectors.

Quite popular, He is already very popular, his originals dont hang around for long. The difference being is that he has a wide collector base and portraits are not normally a street art collectors thing IMO.

MATTY SMALLS originals, by dave313perry on Sept 3, 2007 19:43:29 GMT 1, Yeah i realise this ABC - i guess what i mean is that he is not as prolific in his producing of prints as he is originals. And his prints are only available from limited places. All this to his credit as he is obviously working for enjoyment and personal satisfaction and building up a large portfolio of work, developing his technique and style, reather than slapping something up in photoshop and suddenly pricing an ink-jet of it for £200 - which some artists popping onto the scene seem to have done! Matts definately a lover of art and what he does which is getting bloody unheard of! or maybe im just being cynical?
