New Faile Release: November 12th, by Harveyn on Nov 6, 2007 19:57:28 GMT 1, Very cool system and will give everyone an equal chance. Probably the fairest system yet but also probably reduces each persons chance of getting one.
Well done boys.

Isn't it supposed to reflect the bill poster / collage nature of some of the work where things are posted over each other reflecting the evolution of the life of a wall on the street?
The other funny thing about the site is that it always shrinks the size of the window on the screen. Not sure what that is all about but by browser doesn't always like it!

I disagree, I think the system sucks...a lottery ? lucky winners ?.. we supposed to feel lucky to be spending $1k on a print these days.. stupid system that should be consigned to the dustbin asap. I think it devalues and trivialises the work and the scene. A shame it's Faile that have chosen to go this direction, always been a fan of their work. Flippers galore will be lining up.. at least the fuckers had to be a bit on the ball before.

New Faile Release: November 12th, by absyrd on Nov 6, 2007 20:48:13 GMT 1, I disagree with nuart. If anyone had the time to f5 or use programs to abuse online buying systems, it is people that make their living off of "scalping" things on ebay.
It also spreads out the work amongst fans.
And, lastly, this is a GREAT way to give everyone time to choose what they want instead of buying without even reading print sizes, edition numbers, etc.

Yeah, it's great what you can do with free prints:
www.Expressobeans/public/detail.php/67572
I'm sure that wasn't Faile's intention with these either.

The difference is that the amount of people looking and bidding will now be multiplied tenfold..and spread over four days !!!, every flipper and his mum, best mate and dog will be signing up for the best pieces. Out of every issue there's usually 5 or 6 stand out pieces. Won't everyone just sign up for these ?.. your chances of getting the the print you like will be severely diminished this way. Do you sign up for the good one and risk it, or sign up for the lame ones that usually go last ?..

With regards re-sale I think if anything you will see more prints on ebay than at present as people try and off load prints that weren't their first choice.
I agree you can't please all people but whatever bad things you can say about the old system, at least everyone had an equal chance.

New Faile Release: November 12th, by Harveyn on Nov 6, 2007 21:15:32 GMT 1, I think I will change my mind on this being a good idea.
Nu - On reflection I sort of agree with you on this there are probably more bad points than good points and as per my 1st comment chances of getting the one or two pieces you like have been greatly diminished (whether to flippers or not).
The main benefit of having the opportunity to view the art could be achieved by posting the prints for a review period irrespective of the procurement process.

New Faile Release: November 12th, by Photoxtc on Nov 6, 2007 21:25:35 GMT 1, I think this will be a good trial run and I'm sure lots of eyes will be looking at the outcome of this...
I'm sure lots of people will be pissed over this but then again, people are always mad about something and no matter what not 100% of the people will be happy... unless you win the Lotto, then of course all will be good!
Move forward and see how it goes, I for one think it's a good idea but that's just me, the next guy will think it's a horrible idea... who has the right answer? It's all trial and error, that's the only way to improve on a system...

New Faile Release: November 12th, by Deleted on Nov 6, 2007 21:41:34 GMT 1, I think you guys are thinking it about the wrong way...It's simple, using a lottery system minimizes the chance that a piece will end up in the hands of a flipper/bagger. How? By giving everyone a chance to "win" an opportunity to buy a piece. Sure, they can try to cheat the system and enter multiple entries (the new system prevents that by the way), but, the system has the capability of banning certain known flippers. And, you can also get blacklisted if you violate the terms and conditions.
Also, once a winner is chosen, they can decline purchasing it and a new winner will be randomly chosen from the same pool of people.
I'm biased as some of you know, but I personally think the lottery system is the best way to go about selling high demand items. You avoid wasting people's time F5ing, the artist's website won't crash, and even if there are multiple entries by the same person, the odds are still against them as they're competing against everyone else.

New Faile Release: November 12th, by stylus on Nov 6, 2007 21:42:11 GMT 1, I agree with Nu here. With this method of release, there is one determining factor in whether or not one is successful: luck of the draw. It's a bit of a cop out. It doesn't make a short-term profiteer less likely to get one.

You'll be able to enter the lottery for all pieces but, can only purchase one. If you win more than one, you'll be asked which one you want to purchase and a new winner will be chosen for the piece you don't buy.

Keep the same payment methods, but have a preview period of 48 hours, spread them out over multiple pages, mixing them up a bit so people can bookmark only one page and announce a sale time..it's a lottery anyway right ? but agree, be cool to have a preview of the work.
