Mau Mau and the Munney print, by chablis on Jan 13, 2008 17:59:57 GMT 1, I am newly registered, but a long time lurker. Following an expensive few months I have a decent collection going.
I have a question though, why is Mau Mau's print Munney still available? I bought this and think it is blinding vaule. I was wondering if I had made some kind of collecting mistake?
www.letthemhang.co.uk/product_info.php/cPath/62/products_id/3094
Is it just that it is not other peoples taste, also I was hoping to raise it's profile so it sold out and would be worth a fortune so I can flip it and retire on the profits.

Mau Mau and the Munney print, by morrissey1 on Jan 13, 2008 18:21:18 GMT 1, Some people may be shying away from that print because it does have some similiarities with the winnie the pooh and the honey pot piece that banksy did.....even though I agree the Mau Mau print looks nice, it does have that, 'been there, done that' already feel to it

Yep. Plus MauMau's message is far too much of a cliche. Tru$$$t in TV is great on the otherhand - very nearly bought it on the opening night of 12 Days, will have to chance my arm in Graffle instead!

Mau Mau and the Munney print, by chablis on Jan 13, 2008 18:43:31 GMT 1, Thanks for the replies so far, it is nice to get other peoples opinions. Fortunately I don't have a Banksy Pooh canvas on my wall yet for it to clash with.
You could of course just responded newbie error.. subject not original enough. Mind you I am looking around and I guess it is difficult for artists to be really original.
Please keep the replies coming, personally I don't regret the purchase but it is interesting to have others views.

Mau Mau and the Munney print, by Deleted on Jan 13, 2008 18:53:17 GMT 1, welcome to the forum Chablis. its a really nice print. if it was sold via sos it may have sold out. i bought the print at the show at the workshop and will eventually get around to framing and putting on the boys bedroom. it isn't hugely original, but its very well printed and a bargain. i really like some of mau mau's stuff and am looking forward to seeing what he has in store for us at the Leonard Street gallery with Beejoir et al.

Mau Mau and the Munney print, by craigf on Jan 13, 2008 18:59:37 GMT 1, I bought it too, not to flip / make me a fortune, but because I liked the image even with the Banksy similarities. Also have Business Heads and should have bought Wack McD, but had over spent already. If he keeps going the way he is you might end up kicking yourself for only buying 1! The show next month should be interesting ;D

Mau Mau and the Munney print, by chablis on Jan 13, 2008 19:27:30 GMT 1, No mistake of course, just myself. The 'collecting mistake' comment is intended to be a pun on the purchasing for profit only mentality.
Thanks for the great responses, I've been watching for a while, particularly got into this with the onset of the Santa's Ghetto 2007. I went to Oxford Street the year before and foolishly booked a day of work to attend again last year. I want to say a big thank you to the sod who posted the archived website link, you really do know how to spoil someones day. I have found may great artists and know that this is the place to be.

Mau Mau and the Munney print, by Gallery Grace on Jan 13, 2008 19:37:48 GMT 1, Must admit that print isnโt my favourite of his. I have allot of respect for him and love his work. He has been around for a long time reminds me of the earlier days when graffiti was more associated with hiphop and when uk hiphop was at its peek.
Hes done allot of work in the 90โs for uk artist like Rodny p, His graffiti work is of the original graffiti style and fitโs the galleries well which is not always the same for allot of original style type writers. Mode 2 two is of similar mould and does his thing well
If you look at bulk body of his work there are no similarities with Banksy and they are very pleasing on the eye.

M*unney was one of my stocking fillers at Xmas (bought by myself). Got it off the strength of the Business Heads print from SOS. Pic doenst do print justice. really nice quality. Am surprised there's prints still available too. If you're that worried about turnin' the buck as opposed to having some ice art, Chablis, hear that bleeding heart frontman from Coldplay snapped one up too, so i'm sure the price will rise. I got it just cause i like the image (Yes the image has been used before - but hey not like banksy's producing original imagery every time..)

yeah, i think it's a nice print too....have considered buying it a couple of times over the past couple of months...but haven't done it yet (probably will finally decide to buy the day it sells out)...and I don't think there's anything wrong with the print looking similar to something else that banksy has done, i was just trying to answer the first posters' question,,,why it wasn't sold out yet...and that has to be why...otherwise it would be gone by now
