Josh Keyes Original Close Ups, by sm on Feb 9, 2008 13:00:16 GMT 1, this piece is amazing. thanks for the high res pics. I haven't been lucky enough to see an original of his in the flesh. The detail is mad. I'm on the waiting list for some work but only just joined so bring on the year 2020.

;D Not at all mcnuts. ;D In a much treasured note to me to explain the background about this piece, Josh describes them as 'personified blob forms' signifying violence and how humans as planetary caretakers can lead to its destruction.
I absolutely love this piece and it's certainly a conversation starter! More blatant and edgier than the subtle and equally disturbing direction of his most recent work. The Akira imagery especially the anamorphic transformation was purely coincidental with one of his students pointing out the similarity once completed.
To see Josh's work in the flesh really helps you appreciate the technique, craftsmanship and skill he uses in his painting. One reason for posting these pics was because the images on the website just can't do them justice. For example, I didn't realise the painting had the smoke coming from the cigarettes at all! When I saw it in the flesh, I literally gasped.
I haven't yet been tempted to get the crayons out and fill in the speech bubbles.

Josh Keyes Original Close Ups, by Coach on Feb 12, 2008 20:22:16 GMT 1, hey scavos, nice to see you back buddy. amazing keyes orriginal. i hadnt seen anything like this by him before (or anyone else for that matter). the quality of the painting and the detail are superb. i see what you/he means about it being edgy. disturbing almost, but i like disturbing, hence my dennings! caretakers of the planet is spot on - parenthood makes you think about this in particular. i have no doubt it is a conversation starter. what have visitors/family opinions been. interested cos a lot of my stuff is really disliked by visitors, but refreshingly, had someone visiting last night who raved, which really got me started! cool canvass mate - very jealous.
