properly wrong. completely wrong perspective and scale. but then again, maybe banksy just painted it. nothing more, nothing less. maybe he didn't get his set square out or model his own reflection. we all know he's not an oil painter. so, is it crap or just cool? dont look at me, i've no idea. but i wondered how much does this mean to people on here? is realism that important? is it the idea that counts? would love to hear people thoughts...

Banksy - The RUDE Lord, by low3 on Feb 21, 2009 10:55:15 GMT 1, I think its the arm connected to the hand that makes it look wrong. It heads off in completely the wrong direction. Damn it Banksy! Sort it out! Now!!

Banksy - The RUDE Lord, by slowmo on Feb 21, 2009 11:00:24 GMT 1, I reckon its overcooking it to worry about all that stuff. Just think back to being a child and using a black biro on someones teeth in a magazine, maybe a pair of glasses and a swastika forehead.
I bloody love this sort of stuff, execution is secondary, but would want it placed with older works that were unaffected so the piece finds people and draws the response it deserves, childish laughter or a sni**er, rather than sits on its own and looks a bit naff like it does here because people are expected to look at it longer than fleetingly, which is all this takes to work.

Banksy - The RUDE Lord, by LEVI C on Feb 21, 2009 17:48:14 GMT 1, couldn't agree more also slowmo, execution is very much secondary. Unfortunately, my first thought was that the hand is out of perspective and second reaction was a chuckle. Should have been the other way round though imo.

I feel this statement allows artists to get away with too much... if this was any other artist we'd all be saying it was poorly executed.... which imo it is ! he got the perspective wrong....deal with it

Banksy - The RUDE Lord, by gbh on Feb 22, 2009 0:14:15 GMT 1, perhaps... but for me, my tastes are really simple. I certainly can appreciate pretty things that are in correct perspective, etc. but what feeds my hunger in *this* scene is 95% the message of the pieces we see on a daily basis.
to illustrate the difference in my tastes compared to maybe plenty of others, check the below image. This is one of my all time favourite pieces, I have referred to it many times in the past
Certainly the artist could do a lot of work on their execution, but on the flip side there are thousands of good street artists that need to do equally as much work on their message or delivery of their message.....

That is a superb pic gbh. It does make me thin tho' how much the photo itself plays a part. If the pic was taken when the road was clear, it wouldnt work anywhere near as well, if at all. Assuming the road is often like that, its all about placement - placement - placement. Oh, and the good humour in the first place. As I said, great photo - made me titter! Cheers c

Banksy - The RUDE Lord, by gbh on Feb 22, 2009 0:23:03 GMT 1, I still think it works well outside of the pic as well. Imagine if it's just you on that road driving in to the city at 6am and you see that, sets you off thinking I'm sure. It's a powerful placement and message.....and without the spray there it's just a shit photo of a traffic jam

True - but it works better with the jam - and that's my point about placement - I guess the spot was picked due to a propensity to be jammed - a route into london perhaps? Just saying that ...... not sure really - too much red wine... go back to saying what looks nice!!

Banksy - The RUDE Lord, by bmjt on Feb 22, 2009 0:49:30 GMT 1, Surely that's the essence of truly great street art, the context is integral to the work and enhances the message far beyond the words and/or images. This piece is a perfect example of it, and indeed is exactly why Banksy has been so succesful in capturing people's attention.

Yes - what I was trying to say, but too much red wine prevented it!

Banksy - The RUDE Lord, by retardthebear on Feb 22, 2009 3:22:20 GMT 1, If someone else had done this exact thing would you view it as ausing but badly executed? Does it being a Banksy gives it a license to be wrong looking and make fans start making excuses for this?

an idea becomes great when its executed well, otherwise it can let itself down
