DELAY IN MISS BUGS PIECES FROM BROOKLYNITE, by bullet on May 22, 2009 23:41:20 GMT 1, Just a heads up as BN have not posted it on here (yet)...
can i just say though, i hope there will be a little extra to make up for the delay and possible UK customs charge on this ;D ;D
=
We at Brooklynite Gallery just wanted to touch base regarding the shipping of the "Faceless Three" prints you have purchased. Miss Bugs and Brooklynite fully expected to begin shipping prints out earlier this week when we ran into a bit of a snag with customs. They have released to us half the shipment so far but don't expect to release the rest until Wednesday of next week because of holidays. Rather than begin shipping some now and running into edition number problems later, we want to have everything in our hands first.
Some of you may be thinking what a waste it is for the prints to be shipped to the US only then to have some of them sent back to the UK. In theory that may not make alot of sense but the prints were sold through our gallery and we are responsible for all aspects of this release including the packaging and shipping of the work. In order to make sure everyone gets the proper work it's VERY important for it to all come out of the same location. Of course our staff and gallery is located in Brooklyn, USA so it works best to handle everything here.
Once again sorry for the delay. Rest assure that we have the the packaging materials, shipment documents, etc. in order and ready to go. Once the prints arrive they go into the materials and right out. We expect to half the orders to be sent out Thursday and the other half on Friday.
Thanks again for your patience.

DELAY IN MISS BUGS PIECES FROM BROOKLYNITE, by chrispa on May 23, 2009 10:07:54 GMT 1, I have written to them asking them to reconsider..... Not only will we be charged customs fees - just think of the ecological impact of shipping all this sheets of aluminium to the USA and back again, plus we all know that the further things travel the more likely they are for our beloved postal services to damage or lose them

DELAY IN MISS BUGS PIECES FROM BROOKLYNITE, by bullet on May 23, 2009 12:45:42 GMT 1, can anyone tell me if i was wrong to post this?
its really important for buyers in the UK especially to know as there is massive VAT charges.
If its not right then delete this post but it's something you want to know about if buying from a gallery

DELAY IN MISS BUGS PIECES FROM BROOKLYNITE, by BROOKLYNITE on May 23, 2009 13:47:31 GMT 1, Since Freerange has decided to turn a personal email we sent only to those that purchased MB prints and post it on the forum for some reason we are now forced to explain our position further.
First off-- most of you know we pride ourselves on customer service and quality in all that we do. In fact we look at many of you as friends first and have talked and met many times before.
Brooklynite is based in.... BROOKLYN. The artists are based in....the UK. Brooklynite is the gallery-- when we offer an artists an exhibition they come to.... Brooklyn to show their work. That means they produce work in their studio and ship it to the gallery. It's worked that way for years guys. The prints were part of the show.
It's the gallery's responsibility to handle all aspects of the show-- We cannot expect the artists to open their studio for people to pick up work. Or to package work and ship it out themselves. That's one of the benefits of an artist/gallery relationship. We make sure the artist concentrates on creating. We handle these sorts of things. We would sure love to have a full staff in the UK that could handle this-- but we don't. If galleries were to only show work from artists in their backyard as to not have to ship work, you would never see many of the US artists you guys write about so much...
Yes we do care about air quality and carbon footprints but we are not located in the UK and sending a staff their would be the same thing correct? In fact it costs us more money to have the work shipped to us-- But we want to get it right and make sure each one of you get the correct edition number AND print you requested.
FYI many prints were sold to buyers in the USA and other parts of the world too.
As far as import duties-- We will mark the value very low on the prints and Mark them as a GIFT. -----IF YOU CHOOSE.
Not sure why someone would post a personal email on a forum when it would only make sense we would send one to all that had purchased work and deal with them individually. But maybe that's just me?
Maybe it's better to lie next time?
Rae BROOKLYNITE

Personally, I'd rather take my chances if they're well packaged than be stung with a tax bill.

If it is marked as a gift and arrives damaged then insurance definitely won't cover it.
If the customer hasn't requested it marked this way then Brooklynite should be responsible for replacing any damages.
If the customer has requested this they need to be aware that the risk 'should' be theirs - although legally I'm not sure who the responsibility falls on

DELAY IN MISS BUGS PIECES FROM BROOKLYNITE, by mcnuts on May 23, 2009 14:56:16 GMT 1, Not to mention it is likely an illegal business practice and could, quite easily, land the gallery in trouble (queue the โeverybody does it response). The gallery's position makes total sense. TBH, Iโm just surprised that Brooklyn isnโt in the UK.

DELAY IN MISS BUGS PIECES FROM BROOKLYNITE, by sahoria on May 23, 2009 17:55:02 GMT 1, 5% vat applies to art pieces that have the artist physically work on the art piece by hand excluding there signature...
written note in the shipped art piece stating where artist drawn by hand etc would help with the VAT cost but it is up to the customs officer to decide. Customs officials take months to sort out unfair claims and you will still need to pay the 15% if they think art is not done by hand and make claim afterwards.
Marking as a gift i think was more Rae trying to be helpful to people who purchased overseas but would think is the buyers responsibility if something happens to the item in transit if they agree for the art piece to be classed as a gift.
point of sale was also in the states so if they was to send pieces from the uk internally would think the gallery would have to pay some tax to the uk inland revenue.
know times are tough for alot of people but thought originally these was priced very well and even with paying 15% would think people still getting bargain considering there show in brighton there art pieces was closer to the 3-4k mark.
Look forward to seeing these on the get your art out for the lads thread in few weeks ... s

DELAY IN MISS BUGS PIECES FROM BROOKLYNITE, by sahoria on May 23, 2009 21:06:02 GMT 1, sorry sacked didnt have to long to write earlier... for it to fall into 5% charge the art piece would have to have the artist work on it by hand... ie if obey print had alot of hand finishing or was collage of multiple prints etc.... if normal screen print with just obey signature then would fall into the 15% tax ....
things like paintings normally fall into 5% charge but when it comes to prints normally have to pay 15%....s

DELAY IN MISS BUGS PIECES FROM BROOKLYNITE, by afroken on May 23, 2009 21:14:49 GMT 1, But you can normally get away with screen prints as they are hand pulled. You definitely can't get away with anything that is machine produced, like lithos or giclees. The important point is whether it was hand pulled by the artist. Grey area.
