why are they so special? everyone has bad days, what difference does that make?
If you are referring to people killing themselves on the tube then it happens daily, people just get pissed off with it after a while.

Tube Strike, by G-Man on Jun 8, 2009 22:28:21 GMT 1, They have been offered a pay rise above inlation for the next 5 years which i think is very fair considering
The issue is that the overground unions stiked and secured more than this... ยฃ2500 increase per man if i remember the figures?? Now that has got everyone over a barrel, once they give in to one lot then it becomes inevitable that the tube guys would want the same.
They said that they would freeze their pay but when their overground colleagues are striking and getting more then they were never gonna accept that and therefore this strike was inevitable I'm afraid
The problem we have is that there is alternatives and therefore they can always strike if they want, a bit like the fireman and the green goddesses from the army. I was a nurse for 5 years and quit in the end because they are paid a pittance and cant strike because we have no alternatives to care for the dying
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Boris is gonna hear it from me tmw morning i kid you not
Rant over

Tube Strike, by blackcowboy666 on Jun 8, 2009 22:30:35 GMT 1, its also about the collapse of metronet...i believe.. and the influx of staff from the busted company to TFL...meaning for some stupid reason there is two identical staff for one position (again, this is what i think is happening)...and obv. now TFL are saying this cant go on (paying two salaries for one position) and are looking at future job cuts...this and the pay rise and safety arguments. a few thoughts.. 1- what were TFL thinking taking on metronet staff and doubling up roles - surely any level headed person thinks this is ridiclous and a disaster waiting to happen 2- why is it the underground staff seem to strike more than any other working sector in London? is it french owned? long have public sympathy gone from them...im sorry, you are a tube driver...if you dont like the conditions - find another job...it is not the most social of jobs, but you work there by choice and it is hardly the most dangerous job in the world (gas miner etc). I don't know exacts of details, but it feels that the union for the underground is very hardcore and feels obliged to strike for anything they feel - regardless of the current worldwide employment marketplace...yes, if you are striking for genuine reasons (accurate and real safety problems etc) i understand, but in this credit crunch - pay rises and bullish ignorance about a situation where it seems the best worker for the job will still be employed, is too much...OK so it is unfair, but metronet went bust...the better worker will still be working...and if you want unfair then sadly that is todays economic climate (car workers etc). This is not a similar situation to that car factory when the owners imported cheaper labor (which was disgusting). 3- lets get this shit, and any other business sorted out before the olympics...strikers union will hold London over a barell when that comes...i can see them
I have sympathy for anyone with a genuine reason to strike, for health / safety / genuine unfair work issues...and of course the families invoved...i do...but i feel that they are not the cities golden children exempt from certain world facts (business survival of the fittest), and their regular striking mixed with awful tube service (Victoria line anyone?) is not serving them well and soon i feel they will not be so welcomed around negotiating tables and at picket lines
