I'm starting to think he would put his name to anything now.
How about Damien Hirst Spot cream? ;D ;D ;D

Damien Hirst is an absolute dousche-nozzle. I don't care what he's done in the past. When you try to sell 12 plates for $20k, you're an asshole. When you try to sell 250 sets of them for that price, then forced chemical sterilization is in order. We've got Benny Hinn here in the US for the dips**ts who believe in god, and Damien Hirst in the UK for the dips**ts that don't. All either of them require is your regular worship, and generous donation to support their world-changing work. . . .
Does anybody have some spare monitor wipes? It seems I've projected a bit of my Stella in a random pattern after visiting that link.

'The technique applied is simple, but the outcome implies complex ideas about morality and the history of mankind, and although these works deny a specific anthropological or historical reading, the results are compelling, being celebratory and seductive, as well as ominous and haunting.'
Really? Does that blow painted plastic mass produced skull do ALL of that....or just make you think wtf?

Damien Hirst • PLATES • All Editions , by GD303uk on Aug 26, 2007 11:20:54 GMT 1, In a way Hirst understands the art industry, It’s all about selling and marketing. And the people who buy and sell art can market Hirst like no other, 'Infant Phenomenon' and 'Enfant Terrible' brit art bad boy, etc He takes the piss for sure, Who is the mug? I agree, I like Hirst, I feel as though if we met in a pub he would be a funny and intelligent person, Not a high minded snob believing he is the greatest artist ever. Dinner plates not my thing but if I could afford them and new that in 10 years time they would be worth a million, I might buy them would you, Where would be the harm in flipping an artist like Hirst?
Apart from that I like a lot of his work, If I don’t get it that’s ok they look good and brighten up my wall.
A white gentlemen's urinal has been named the most influential modern art work of all time.

Damien Hirst • PLATES • All Editions , by Strange Al on Aug 26, 2007 11:45:26 GMT 1, Duchamp was definitely taking the p*ss, but his Fountain broke boundaries and effectively paved the way for the conceptual art movement. It's position as one of the most influential pieces of modern art is fairly easy to defend. The context of the work's creation is all important in assessing its relevance. In its time, the Fountain was a true challenge to the art establishment.
I'm a big fan of Hirst. Not only is he a shrewd marketer, as GD has pointed out, but he has created works which have taken Contemporary art to a different plain. I'm by no means a fan of every piece he's created (in fact a lot of it is pretty weak), but certain Hirst pieces are just mind blowing. "Mother and Child Divided", for example.
Furthermore, he's done one hell of a lot for the contemporary British art scene. I truly believe that without Hirst's support, Banksy wouldn't be where he is today. Question whether that's a good or a bad thing?

But many of his multiples, IMHO, leave an awful lot to be desired.

Damien Hirst • PLATES • All Editions , by doughy on Aug 26, 2007 22:26:15 GMT 1, Perhaps each piece needs to be taken on its own merit, everyone has their own views on each one.
I guess if you like it and can afford, then buy. Forums are there as debating corners for t'internet maybe, like Hyde Park Corner.
I may think its a rip-off, others a work of thought and beauty, the further you get from mainstream, the wider the views get.
Perhaps the joke is someone seeing something of value in a piece, more than the artist themselves.
But its good we don't all agree. Nice bounces from you guys as well, good thread.
