Damien Hirst For the Love of God aka Diamond Skull, by runningdog on Sept 2, 2007 6:45:24 GMT 1, Stop lying, I bought that. The credit card bill's gonna sting next month, that's for sure. Seemed a bargain at the time, it always does after all that free booze, I'm sure a few forum members know what I'm talking about.

Damien Hirst For the Love of God aka Diamond Skull, by jrallah on Sept 2, 2007 7:54:59 GMT 1, I personally have never bought into this masterpiece-purchased-by-unnamed-โinvestment groupโ crap. Logically, if you had just spent a hundred million on something original that you genuinely believed was worth such a bangload of cash...Why the f--k would you not want to be known for that?? And, anonymity for security reasons is out. Anyone that can dish out that kinda money would be a moron not to prepare a means of physically protecting it.
Perhaps i may be reaching, but it really just seems to me like an artist attempting to build up a great deal of hype about his work for the purpose of shifting it later...as this unnamed โinvestment groupโ seems to have its intentions set on.
...but, that's just my two cents.

Damien Hirst For the Love of God aka Diamond Skull, by stillborncrisps on Sept 2, 2007 9:43:05 GMT 1, By definition an 'investment group' is investing their $100m/ยฃ50m in art in the same way as if they'd put it in the bank, or stocks and shares. Therefore if you'd just put ยฃ50m in stocks why would you want to be know for that? To shout about investing in the skull would be the same. They probably don't care that much about the art itself, other than it's just a potentially good investment for them.
Investments like this go on all the time, you just don't hear about them coz they're usually boring.
The security issues are not only around the artwork - if you are known to have that sort of money floating about you're an easier target for anyone that wants to take some of it off your hands (by whatever method).
Does Damien Hirst really need to 'build up a great deal of hype'? He's the richest living artist there's ever been, reportedly worth ยฃ100m/$200m.

Damien Hirst For the Love of God aka Diamond Skull, by Pattycakes on Sept 2, 2007 16:41:23 GMT 1, Hundertwasser the Austrian artist regularly had editions up to 10,000 peversly they sold out, and prints by him from editions of that size regularly sell in from ยฃ1000-10,000. Crazy. Also Richard Hamilton has done a couple of prints from 5000, Kent State and the BBC what is it...? for example.

The most interesting aspect of this sale is Damien Hirst's "retained ownership".......AKA...........He's part of the investment group and bought the skull off of himself.........for the purpose of flipping it later.....FACT
Also just heard about a deal he has with Levi's to release some Damien Hirst jeans that will retail for only $4,000 a pair...............what a deal

Damien Hirst For the Love of God aka Diamond Skull, by dmandpenfold on Jun 1, 2007 13:44:48 GMT 1, Well it's due to open on the 3rd at the White Cube (apologies if anyone else has already posted but i couldn't see a thread anywhere) . I just saw a preview on the BBC lunchtime news of Damien's diamond encrusted skull, it looks pretty amazing, but a little out of my price range for GBP50 Million
Anyone going to get an opportunity to see it in the flesh so to speak..?
