banksyforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1176493469
I have bought one and I will try to put pictures when I receive it. There are still stickers and the catalogue of his new exhibition available. Basically, it went pretty fast. I don't know anything, but maybe he kept some to sell at the gallery and you could try to call them.

Invader, by fautebol on Apr 17, 2007 14:24:04 GMT 1, Regarding rubikcubes, I see: Rubikspace 2005 (show at the same time) Rubikcubism 2006 Albino 2006 (POW) Alex 2006 (POW) Rubik Scream II 2007 (show at the same time).
Regarding pictures made with rubikcubes, I only see Alex and the new one. POW were quite big editions with unsigned compared to the others. I think there could be more than one this year depending for example of the next show. (Rubik Cubes part II?). Is he going to have quite big editions prints through POW or go in "classic" galleries and release a print in connection with the show? I would not look at it as one a year. Could be more this year and then he could find a new direction. I think it's his rubikcubism period, but I'm not sure he will stick to it for many years.

Invader, by slowmo on Apr 17, 2007 14:38:31 GMT 1, I think his street stuff is great, but really can't see the appeal of his prints or kits or stickers. His (don't know if its a man, woman or collective?) street work is amongst the best out there in terms of idea and execution in my opinion and I love spotting them everywhere, including abroad.
The problem I have is that I find Invader a brand rather than an artist, a bit like the Simpsons, great television (streetwork) but when you punt out albums, egg cups, socks (prints of tiles, invasion kits, stickers) etc it loses its potency and feels a bit like he is cashing in.However like Obey says, it costs a lot of money to fund the street work so I guess its a means to an end.
Not knocking the work or anyone that buys it, just thought I would offer a different opinion on it.

Invader, by fautebol on Apr 17, 2007 15:26:09 GMT 1, No discussions without different opinions. Mine is not made up yet. But, I will answer that:
-The guy is really putting stuff out there. Some of the recent ones in the street are quite big and as you said quite expensive. I don't see him slowing down to sell tshirts. No, he goes on to put stuff out there. And, I see him selling his stuff independenly on his website and it's quite limited. Now, maybe he has do it in a lmited manner also because of TM. But, I don't see him cashing that much. His stuff in the streets are really his brand. But, for example, I don't see his sneakers made to sell a lot. They have a smart direct correlation whith his work. Sure to make money, but still.
-Before rubikcubism, I would have said: great street stuff, but nothing like an artist that can sell good work. But, he found a nice innovative direction. Luck or innovative? That's certainly the question. But:
-I read his CV once and the guy has studied quite a bit (plastic art, technologies, ...). I often feel some logic in what he does and, from the very little I read, I find him quite smart.
-He makes show with the other best street artists, like the Baltic. But, he also goes in regular galleries. I don't know the gallery where he is going in Koln. But, I have not seen a street artist in this gallery previously.
Now regarding prints, kits or stickers, Rubicubism and mosaics are certainly more suitable to originals than prints. I'm maybe a bit too opitmistic regarding his last print. I won't comment more since I have not received it yet...Let's see...But, I don't see him as simply repeating what he does in the streets.
In summary, in the "street art scene" his work is distinctive. In the art scene, I see him as "The geek" with meaning in his work. I really do see two different works, where his street stuff gives him credibility.

Invader, by slowmo on Apr 17, 2007 15:43:55 GMT 1, They're fair points. I don't think he is selling out, I just question how good this stuff actually is when it is removed from the street in which it works so well. But I can appreciate people wanting something of his as a print, as afterall I have a lot of Banksy prints so its a very similar proposition and I would like a toaster print (although I don't think they exist). Like you say they are in small runs and I would guess it all gets pumped back in to get him/ her/ they around the world to put these things up.
Is Space Invader an individual/ male/ female or collective?

Just one more thing. Personnaly, I really do like to use objects for an other use that they were first intented to. I read once that it's something he liked in his work with rubik cubes. Thus, it's something that I share with him. I also like objects mixed in an environnment made of different time periods. Thus, 70s by a cult object from the 80s made now, I will look at it with a favorable eye. It does not make it great, but someone can like it without correlation with his street work.

I was at that show, which was in the summer of 2005. He "Space Invader" is a man...and he wore that mask, while he did a book signing, and most of the evening.
I would have to guess, that even though there was one "man/space invader" at the opening...I have to think there are at least others/someone that has to give assistance to the "street works". You can't help but think "how did he get up there", and "how could he do it, un-noticed", and not to mention....the amount of time, energy, and dedication. It's really incredible.
