Adam Neate • Calm Fear, by Rude Copper on Apr 26, 2007 22:38:12 GMT 1, I got 'nothing on TV' yeterday (for the people who asked if anyone on here got one or not) And for what its worth......my opinion, if you havn't seen Adams work in person, then dont bother commenting on it ............but my opinion is that he will outstip them all and be up there with banksy Not to cause an argument or anything.. but your first point is a load of tosh. I haven't seen Guernica, doesn't mean I can't comment on it and study it and understand that it's probably one the 20th centuries most important and amazing paintings. Thousands of paintings and sculptures are no longer available for us plebs to view, doesn't and certainly shouldn't prevent us from discussing them.. anyway, it's not even an argument.. it's just wrong As for the second part.. not a chance in hell IMO..look through the history of British figurative painting for the last 70 years or so and you'll find a good few painters comparable to Adam, many only known to those who study it, but highly collectible and highly regarded in the tradition... and yes, very very good. As is Adam. Try and find a comparable Banksy.. it simply doesn't exist.. not even in the history of western art. Basquiet a little (but he got co-opted), Warhol to a certain extent maybe...but Mr B is completely unique. We'll see in ten years or so I guess.. or when the hedge fund boys blow the economy and the bottom falls out of the market Don't get me wrong, I love Adam's work, been a fan for a long time (Ok, I lied, let's have a big mad argument ) ;D ;D ;D
i agree & disagree in equal doses, i have'nt seen guernica but still rate it as one of the best works ever, there again, i have seen adams work & verbalkint has a valid point, one that can only be appreciated by seeing the work, maybe we should reconvene after the next show? as for a comparable banksy, what was that quote he made about blek le rat?

I'd love to see him have a major show, I trust you and the people who have been to Adam's shows, a lot of people I respect are blown away by his work, I'm sure i'd be the same. Drunken art debate after the next show it is.. beers are you.
as for the second bit.. maybe up until about about 1998.. and I know you dont really mean it

Adam Neate • Calm Fear, by verbalkint on Apr 27, 2007 1:41:11 GMT 1, I live a fair few miles from london and was called by paul from elms when they got some new neates in a few months ago, i got them to jpeg me the pictures and decided againsed buying them, a week later they were sold and i was in london so i popped into the gallery, saw 3 of the paintings that i turned down and i would have removed a testicle to go back and reserve them, it is just a totally different experience, its the same with the prints only to a slightly lesser degree (the prints are some of the best that i have seen quality wise)
My point is that you cannot comment on adams work till you have seen it, I have not spoke to a single person who has seen his work and not being blown away by it, but i have met serveral people who have thought nothing of him UNTIL they had seen his work in person and were then blown away by him.
Banksy is not just some dumb vandal from bristol, he is a very smart, very astute business man with his fingers in alot of pies, alot of what he does now is specificly designed to make money (sepia 'morons', a very easy way to make £195,000 in 5 minutes) I dont blame him, i would do the same, but i think that even he is slightly horrified by his own success and watching his credibility go down the plughole, a millionaire anarchist with a spray can just doesnt have the same effect does it. Adam Neate did not start leaving paintings on the street as a gimmick, it was something he truly believed in (and still does), for me he is the most successful artist right now who has not sold out one little bit and he is creating the best body of work by miles.
Again, this is all opinion and the great thing about art is that there is no right or wrong, just opinions.

LOL, that post kinda says it all doesn't it. I'll leave this one for someone else to respond to, you do Adam no favours setting him up against Banksy.. chalk and cheese

Good point V Kint. A friend of a friends friend has one from the last show and it totally blows you away in the flesh, way more than any other art I've seen. Its almost not able to be replicated which is why I'm also really impressed with the quality of the EL prints.

Banksy IMO should stand the test of time, If serious art collectors are willing to spend over 200k on a gamble (Because that’s what it is at that sort of money at the moment) then he is slowly making his mark on the Establishment. With the likes of - Banksy, Neate, Micallef etc its not about the forum members hyping and buying but more about the Big boys (Serious collectors) in the art world recognising him as a competent contributor to the society, because that’s what it is all about. Don’t forget that the art world is like Fashion and some things diminish into obscurity over the years.

Have you noticed how some of these on line galleries have nearly every decent recent release. Either there is a network supplying these guys direct or they have some serious software.

The print has been made by scanning or photographing (or a mixture of the two by using a camera with a scanning back) the original art then that image has been printed via an ink jet printer.

Adam Neate • Calm Fear, by neutral on Apr 27, 2007 18:20:21 GMT 1, Ricosg11 the process of the giclee print has nothing of the litho, silkscreen or etching. Giclee print was originally done to proof work by printers and never intented to be a work of art even if the technology is catching up. Most giclee prints are done with Lightfast ink, when done properly, yet I would not trust the process to be as colorfull as when printed in 20 years time. It is at the end of the day a preference that I rather not overlook if spending 2.5K in a piece of work as such as it was the figure with the gallery mentioned above. To take a parallel at your comparaison, the photographer has done a really good job at capturing the lovely work of Adam, same way as the animators do with the movies mentionned. Yet the end result and technique on the giclee edition let it down for the reason explained above, which is a different matter for the movies. I would not expect to watch Toy Story in 20 years and see a discoloration in the picture as I would expect with a giclee print. In regards to say that it is less art because a giclee, I am not sure where you get that from.
It is my taste and mind about the media used for the edition and I do not expect to be the same for everybody else.
