Bye bye Banksy..., by snakes on Oct 28, 2007 20:19:54 GMT 1, Maybe its not such a bad thing,
think b4 you neg me as what are they going to create once they paint over a new wall.
Yep, a new blank canvass and hence possibly new works.
Often destruction breeds creation and maybe that could be a good or even a great thing.
For example if i was artistically talented such as the likes of Mr Banksy etc etc, and some loony council painted over by baby i would want revenge. I would re paint my wall and then paint numerous others just to get my own back!
So when it comes to Hackney painting over these pieces is it really a terrible thing?
Yeah its a shame, but we have seen it and have photos of it (it is recorded in time) - it could even be the next print, but eh best of all, it could even lead to more!

If only one person gets to see it and enjoys it, then it at least has made a difference and in my books that makes it worthwhile.

that said, the stakes are so high now that he may consider the risks to be too much, imagine him getting caught? that pig would never need to buy another doughnut .

..not all doughnut eaters are the same, some dont even drink coffee, some even go to the gym and some even appreciate street art!
Also i am sure with the money now that Banksy has, he should be operating as part of a team with security, minders, spotters etc who would provide a security cordon which would enable avoiding compromise....

Bye bye Banksy..., by dotdot on Oct 28, 2007 21:53:20 GMT 1, Ahem, excuse me.
Hackney is a place which could do with a few visitors checking out the Banksy art work.
There is , it could be argued , very little else to visit in Hackney.
The council's failure to acknowledge such a minor detail is symptomatic of .. lack of vision.
Their loss will, no doubt, be someone else's gain.

Bye bye Banksy..., by scavos on Oct 28, 2007 22:36:17 GMT 1, Vasie posted the following great post about this yesterday. Contains an interesting Banksy quote from 2006. +1 Vasie.
banksyforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1193430915
I wonder whether it would make a difference if enough people emailed the local councillor to express their dismay/anger at his/her lack of insight and the need to consider the real issues in the local area. Could someone with more knowledge of the local area than I knock up a very brief draft for us all to cut and paste to a link to the email address of this idiot shortsighted person?
Surely we as members of this forum should raise our collective voice and make our feelings known?
Power to the people! The revolution started here! Brothers & sisters, Banksy info members unite!

Bye bye Banksy..., by becksaboo on Oct 29, 2007 11:00:33 GMT 1, Bristol council are crap at everything- but at least they've got their heads screwed on with this.
On the hackney council website it says non offensive graffiti will be removed within 14 days. Obviously the banksy's been there for a lot longer so the council are failing their own remit so therefore i think they're doing it for the press attention as they have seen the reaction painting over a banksy gets elsewhere.
Therefore as the 14 days have gone by, surely as it's on a public building then the public have a right over it. I think the councillor needs to remember that he works for the community-not the other way around.
I too am fed up by one person in a dull grey suit wanting to make the entire world dull and grey. They should embrace it and the tourism it brings in. All councils have culture departments- surely they should respect the culture which is there already rather than trying to create a sanitized one?
I think they're so used to money ruling the world then they can't understand someone doing something for free (although it has weirdly worked out as free adverts for banksy- everytime he gets mentioned for his street graff people talk about the amount his work sells at auction- even if it is inflated by steve)
I'll stop rambling now...

Bye bye Banksy..., by mjar on Oct 29, 2007 14:27:01 GMT 1, Saw it as well, all the passers by had positive things to say about the piece they were by. I can understand when it comes to tagging, but there is a big difference between that sort of graffiti and the sort by Banksy, Eine, D-Face etc. As I mentioned elsewhere, Mash The Tate was buffed this weekend. Hate to see that piece go because that, SCARY and VANDALISM are epic in scale, beautiful in colour and humourous and intelligent. If you saw Mash The Tate you will have seen how overwhelming and powerful the piece was, you really lost sight of whether it was on wood, brick, shutter or what - it screamed over all that level of detail. Basically you couldn'tsee what sort of building it was done on. Imagine you owned that property - you'd be pretty hacked off if you had something so loud that people failed to notice what sort of property you had. Is it coincidence it got cleaned about the time the Eine show next door was close to ending (or has ended? I'm a bit vauge about this - I saw a few weeks ago there were still Eine's in the window). I'm with the "fresh canvas" crowd. Look what Banksy has done when the Pulp Fictions got buffed - come back and done some more.
The Mash The Tate piece was painted over by Eine, Spotted him early on Saturday morning repainting the shop front black. Im guessing it was only a temporary piece to tie in with the exhibition next door.
