Which means it sold for $5,000 which was the low estimate and that could very well mean it was bought in. People here at Sotheby's were either not very aware of Banksy, not into the image, or not believing the hype.

I might be mistaken but I think this person had this print up on ebay a couple months ago. I was thinking about bidding on it for up to 5k but he pulled the auction before it ended because he wasn't satisfied with the bidding. I think it was still under 4k (USD) when he pulled it. I emailed him to see if he would still sell it and he sounded all c**ky that he was going to sell it at Sotheby's this fall and make 10k off of it. (maybe it was a different person?) But serves him right if so. And he'd have to pay fees. If it is that guy his sole intention was to flip this thing. The arse.
The weird thing about auction houses is I feel like their clientele couldn't be bothered to look on ebay or they couldn't lower themselves to buy anything on ebay. That's why prices can be so out of whack. But usually it seems like prices go higher at auction houses because those guys have more brains than money. Not this time it seems.
