Damien Hirst Book, by fourputt on Jan 3, 2008 5:50:01 GMT 1, Is a signed Hirst book worth its money as an investment? I love his work, can't afford a piece of it. Is 300 pounds for a signed book too much money? Do they hold their value, decrease or appreciate? I just couldn't afford to buy it, then have it be worth 30 pounds in a year. Should I take the plunge, or hold off?

Damien Hirst Book, by robinbanks on Jan 3, 2008 13:10:15 GMT 1, If your only motivation for buying the book is what it's going to be worth in a few years then don't buy it.
If you really love DH's work and will love and cherish the book for as long as you own it then go for it.
Personally I don't think anyone should have to pay ยฃ300 for a book - signed or not - unless you are talking about something like Matt Small's book from the LSG which was more like a work of art anyway.

Damien Hirst Book, by fourputt on Jan 3, 2008 16:55:15 GMT 1, So, is a poster at 200 pounds a better investment than a book at 300 pounds. Superstition in both cases. Thoughts?

Damien Hirst Book, by robinbanks on Jan 3, 2008 17:02:13 GMT 1, Would you rather have a book of images on your shelf that you can flip through from time to time, or one single image that will take pride of place on your wall for all to see?
Only you have the answer to that question.
When people talk of art as an investment there is much more than just money involved.

Damien Hirst Book, by andrewd on Jan 3, 2008 18:46:06 GMT 1, watch out for special offers. I picked up a signed Hirst book from Other Criteria at their stand at Zoo Art Fair, only available for the duration of the fair. Reasonable value. On the whole, despite Laz asking over the odds for signed books generally in the world of art a signed book is never really a great investment rather it's just a great thing to have. Buy if you really want one!
