Banksy "Old School" Clerkenwell Road, by mammal2 on Jan 27, 2008 17:59:08 GMT 1, I don't think its being moved. They are currently touching the work up, so i do suspect it will become part of a development ala Mild Mild West.

Aye...I think that, my boy, is what is called "the point". You can't mollycoddle Banksy's work just because he's a bit of a face these days. Doesn't stop one from fucking up some idiot's attempts at eBaying their wall though ;D ;D ;D

Banksy "Old School" Clerkenwell Road, by slowmo on Jan 28, 2008 9:48:16 GMT 1, definitely looked like someone with a paint brush in there last week, but the smell was like something hot, so maybe they are cutting it out.

Banksy "Old School" Clerkenwell Road, by johnnyh on Aug 24, 2011 4:17:01 GMT 1, Couple of weird arguments on this. Its painted on someones wall so to be fair its up to them what they do with it. Unfortunately thats life.
Now no one wants to see them disapear with the exception of Banksy as he could go round reparing them etc but assume he thinks f that got better things to do.
Re other people repairing them this is interesting as people repair old masters so sure they can repair a stencil (no disrespect) and that way they do last. Or they cover them up etc
should street art be kept or just left to develop with the street.
Remember the Banksy Robbo thing was about Banksy messing with his wall piece old and massively tagged as it was.
Robbo altering Banksy stuff Banksy altering it again. So the artists themselves do this and change the pieces.
No conclusion here but think these are interesting points on what should happen to street art and am sure to be fair to them the councils are also trying to work out. These artists ahave become so big etc
Should it be left knowing that a new piece or a new artist will replace it at somepoint in time or should it be protected. Camnden putting it in a frame soon as it appears is this good better or worse than repairing. Should they be repaired. Was the old Robbo tag more or less valuable that what Banksy put up.
Not about the B & R argument but its a really goos example. Threads on here not likeing the Banksy's being altered etc but also not liking them being protected etc.
Just look at the Bristol thing just gone mega pieces shouild they be protected or taken down etc
Food for thought

Banksy "Old School" Clerkenwell Road, by caro on Aug 24, 2011 22:58:22 GMT 1, ...indeed food for thought: just spent a year thinking about that! [you just nailed the subject of my dissertation]
It was great fun but I can't say I came to anything nearer a clear conclusion than that there is no clear conclusion at all lol
And that it's basically about getting people to use their brains, common sense and some critical thinking instead of applying (or looking for) general rules.
One other factor some people forget is that it's unrequired art in a public space that morally belongs to the people. Most artists I interviewed understood it this way, and were sympathetic to the fact that a local community could grow attached to a certain piece and want to keep it somehow. If that's really possible it's another thing...

Banksy "Old School" Clerkenwell Road, by johnnyh on Aug 25, 2011 5:59:36 GMT 1, Thanks Caro
You may be ought to put that up on a link when finnished would be interested to read. Think that as Graffiti / Urban Art just keeps growing and has in many ways has also changed a lot in terms of the work etc as has peoples opinions of that development in the work.
Street pieces seem to be getting bigger rather than smaller - regardless of whether you call it , vandalism, Graffiti or Art. Fact is cannot see it getting smaller.
so think these issues will start to play a bigger part. Banksy's being protected and others cleaned off. This is a big change as Eines in general are not cleaned off either on many of the shop fronts I can see him being protected soon so that list starts to grow.
Think the Eine shop fronts are a really strong sign of community acceptance as many are on an individuals property and have not had the same Banksy value concept attached. But the individual has kept it. May be the individual is more accepting and enjoying than say the councils rules.
may be they get feed back as love your shutter now etc fro the community and customers who see it on the way home from work or pub etc.
Like the line about using their Brains and no rules cannot see many councils adopting that. Would still need a graffiti art bod to decide vandalism cleanit!!!! Art wonderful keep it !!!!
Interesting
