I find them quite haunting. The rest of the world is going past, and they remain, static forever. Unlike the other pieces which come out at you and seem to move with the city. The costumes are often out of place, and out of time. I think the overall feeling from the new (and old) shadow pieces is a yearning for a time, long ago lost in civilization.

I saw a mental photo of this in a hirosima exhibition a few years ago.
The picutre showed, basically a reverse shadow of a man climbing a ladder. so on the wall was blast, soot charing and then a whiteish (negative) shadow of this man where he was oblivously vapourise from the blast..... Hard to discribe but was a real head fuk - a real slap in the face.
will try to find picture.

I couldn't agree more. I'd rather see that image from the billboard made into a print, rather than something hideous like that Green Lady.

More new Banksy & D*Face Billboard!, by bonesy on Feb 27, 2008 23:09:30 GMT 1, Is it just me or have Banksy's latest pieces taken a Kara Walker-esque look to them?
I agree 100%. Banksy has used silhouettes in the past but not to this extent and not with just the individual (person alone) silhouette being the focal point to this extent. I mentioned Kara Walker yesterday and I definetly think he is being influenced by her work. MOMA NYC had some amazing prints by her displayed recently.

BONGO THINK WHEN YOU REMOVE THE DETAIL AND LEAVE ONLY THE OUTLINE, THE IMAGE CAN TAKE ON MORE DEPTH AND USE OWN IMAGINATION
BONGO EQUATE IT TO THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN READING A BOOK AND SEEING THE FILM OF THE BOOK
