Banksy fails to sell at auction, by They call me Stephen on Apr 2, 2008 13:31:40 GMT 1, I can't believe Sotherby's allowed prints with creases/pin holes etc to be put up for auction. Surely the clientele going to such auctions wouldn't be prepared to settle for such works and would expect pristine pieces.
These prints would have been better suited for sale on ebay and even then they would have suffered because of this damage. I suspect the seller thought he would achieve a much higher selling price at an established auction house over ebay
CND was a steal though

Banksy fails to sell at auction, by guest2 on Apr 2, 2008 14:32:38 GMT 1, There was pin holes and creases in the 'Toxic Virgin' and the bombhugger and creases on the soupcan. Sothebys are lame for letting these in the sale.

Especially as i guess they have a good relationship with Laz. They should never have accepted them.

Banksy fails to sell at auction, by artstylee on Apr 2, 2008 15:09:11 GMT 1, Should read "Broken Folded Pin Holed Banksy fails to sell"
They just posted that new bulletin to make people sell their Mint condition Banksy's at a cheap rate so they can buy them up and sell at Sothebys later, sneaky dicks.

Banksy fails to sell at auction, by Guest on Apr 2, 2008 15:30:50 GMT 1, I cant understand why these prints were offered for sale? obviously they would not sell in that condition. How the fuck was this allowed to happen by a major auction house, when there must be plenty of mint condition prints available for sale.

Banksy fails to sell at auction, by aginghippie on Apr 2, 2008 15:45:45 GMT 1, I cant understand why these prints were offered for sale? obviously they would not sell in that condition. How the f**k was this allowed to happen by a major auction house, when there must be plenty of mint condition prints available for sale. If you have to shift dross like that you put it with something worth $$$ and they will take the dross to get the commission on the good piece. Christies in NY had a Warhol Flowers in their last print sale that looked like it had been screwed into a ball and used to start a fire - the description said slight scorching in lower right when what they really meant was the bottom right quarter is charred.

Banksy fails to sell at auction, by robinbanks on Apr 2, 2008 15:50:26 GMT 1, Prints in far from mint condition sell at auction all the time.
Some of these actually received bids too (so people were prepared to pay big money for them) - it's just that they didn't make their reserve, which I think partly came down to the fact that they were in the wrong auction - mainly Matisse prints if I recall.
It only seems to be people on here that are so uptight and anal about dinks and creases. Which is really quite funny when you think that most of the art we're talking about has come from the grimy, dirty streets!

Really, the CND had pin holes as well? That would explain the low price if correct.
